Why not? They may not have the recent successes of the teams they would be replacing, but they would cover the market areas lost. UMASS has basketball history and if they can start winning again, they can step in to fill UCONN's shoes in the American. UMASS is also a flagship state university (something the American needs). Rice is a private AAU institution, rich with academic tradition, that has a billion dollar plus endowment. This means they have plenty of money for investing in football facilities and turning the program around, just like Houston has done. Rice would replace the loss of the Houston market.

Are you serious? AAC/G5's best in football and best in basketball. Plus, UCONN would fill WVU's travel partner void as well.
