Student athletic fees in South Carolina per an article in the Charleston paper: http://www.postandcourier.com/20160419/1...h-carolina
How many CUSA schools only charge $530 a year to your students?
Coastal reported $4,257,660 in student fees in 2015. So your number looks right if they have around 8,000 students.
Marshall reported $4,100,749 in student fees. Marshall has an undergrad enrollment of 9,536, which equates to fees of $430. So there's one CUSA school. Southern Miss has 12,005 undergrads and reported $6,083,000 in student fees, so that's $507 per student making it two CUSA schools.
Those are the only 2 I looked at, if others want to check their school they can.
Coastal's issue is that they have only broken a half million in ticket sales once and have never broken $1.2MM in contributions. As an athletic program you can completely control two sources of revenue, selling tickets and getting donations. From those two sources Coastal's best year has been a total of $1.8MM. Charlotte is in the $7MM range for those two items annually, ODU is in the $8MM-$9MM range. App State is over $5MM. That's where you should at least be. GSU is around that $2MM mark, which is also too low and needs to be focused on.
FYI
ODU actually had income of over $14 million in 2015

Now,don't go getting defensive. I clearly stated the two revenue sources are fully within your control and those are the two I was looking at. Rights/Licensing are only partially within your school's control, as evidenced by our TV contract. That's why I didn't include it. It would have been advantageous as a Marshall fan to include it since our IMG deal and merchandising dollars are higher (the part we control), but I was interested in seeing how the recent move-ups compared based solely on the donations and ticket sales.
What I find interesting is that ODU brought in more revenue from ticket sales even though we averaged almost 4000 more per game. How much are their tickets???
Not sure how many suites Marshall has, but ODU has 26 luxury suites, and I'm pretty sure I read in the past that those are $50,000/yr. If accurate, that alone is $1.3 million in ticket sales.
Throw in their very good basketball attendance and suites at The TED, and they probably pull in more basketball ticket sales than anyone in the conference.
The small stadium size and waiting list for tickets has allowed ODU to raise ticket prices and require donations to prevent loss of the right to purchase season tickets.
A large stadium that you can't sell out can actually be detrimental to ticket revenue because some people will just opt to forgo donations because they know they can get a season ticket or single game tickets without any problems. At ODU, if you want to go to the game, you pretty much need to buy a season ticket (unless you buy on the secondary market) and if you want to buy a season ticket, you better make your donations.
Parking is also all controlled by ODU I believe. I don't know if that goes into ticket sales or not, but parking can generate a fair amount of revenue. At Charlotte, one of the premier lots requires a minimum annual donation of $500. If you want the lot closest to the stadium, you must donate a minimum of $2,500. There are then parking pass fees on top of that.
With Marshall just sorta being in the middle of Huntington, I suspect most of the lots around the stadium are privately owned and Marshall isn't getting revenue from that.
