Really, really interesting, OT. The only one I feel is suspect is FAU. I would have thought that wins would be much closer and slightly in the Monarchs' favor. I believe it is entirely possible that we win the six you show, plus FAU, and steal one more for eight wins. My glass is about two thirds full this year.

App State plays at Tenn. on Sept. 1 and then plays home against Miami the week after ODU (I wonder how they got the Hurricanes to come there). If I'm them, I'm seeing the ODU game as the winnable one out of the first three, making the odds even longer that ODU can pull off an upset win.

I see it as a classic trap game for the Mountaineers, making the odds even better that the Monarchs can steal the win. Though ODU is the clear underdog, and getting out of there with a win is truly not likely, there is no way that this game is the blowout it was last year. Can the Monarchs sneak out of Boone with the win? All we can do is hide and watch.

And speaking of trap games, Hampton should not be close, but the team better not be looking ahead to App State. It would be devastating to start the season with a home loss to the Pirates.

We'll finally be working in the TE sets consistently, and that means we will need every snap possible to iron out any issues that arise. I'm hoping that we work the Hampton game as a careful and methodical tune-up for the offense. Check the boxes, kick the tires, and take things for a brief spin per se. Defense is returning business as usual, so they can let loose a bit.

RE: Simulation / predicted odds for ODU's Football outcome (2016 season)
the ODU game is definitely a trap game for App, we're probably going to get the hell beat out of us by Tenn, and then there is the biggest game ever played in Boone with Miami the next week, all I want us to do is beat ODU, I don't care if its by 20 or 3, just get us through this game. To answer the question how we got Miami to Boone, well, from what I have heard, our AD is one hell of a poker player. Miami called, in need a game, offered us 2016 away game, and I think, 2021 away game. I think the Miami AD fully expected us to accept but our AD had the audacity to demand a h/h. Miami AD laughed, said, ya right, and hung up, few days later he called back, our AD stood his ground, and we got our game in Boone. Took a lot of guts for him to make demands to Miami, but it paid off.

The same way we got NC State to play at our house.

we have caught a lot of grief from jealous GS fans who said Miami just feel into our laps, and I guess that's true to a certain extent, but like your AD who got NC State, no guts no glory.

I think at some point (hopefully this season) we get a few wins off Marshall or WKU. I hate going into a season and automatically thinking we will lose to the better teams we face. I really want a win off App State.

We should beat Hampton. Depending on how we beat them will say a lot about who we will be in 2016. If we win by 30-40 points, then our kids are playing like they mean it. I think our kids will go through this season with a chip on their shoulds considering we were three points away from a bowl game last season and of course that App State game. Who does everyone think will get the starting QB job? We have like 20 QBs now.

RE: Simulation / predicted odds for ODU's Football outcome (2016 season)
BW has already said that DW is the No. 1 QB, so the position is his to hold on to or lose going into August. If he is even close to 100% ready to go, I don't see him losing the starting position. The good news is (at least to me) that SB played at a considerably higher level late in the year than he did at the start of the year last fall. If for whatever reason SB becomes the starter, I think we will be in good hands. Fact is though, that the questions on the O-line make the more mobile DW the better choice right now.

Just as you have stated AGGIE - Washington is clearly the more mobile and athletic, if he is healthy in August he will be the starter. I have also heard that Wilder has a lot of confidence in SB. Ron W. and Wilder have made it clear that Bentley has improved his passing accuracy and has always had good arm strength. He continues to work on his foot work. I honestly feel that there was so much pressure on Bentley last year it got in his head at times. With that said he still struggles with his mobility and is not very elusive when he is chased or run down by the defense. This year we will have more options at wide receiver and just as you pointed out the offensive line will be key to our QB's ability to move the ball. I am however raising my expectations for our special teams play. With the addition of our freshman punter and Josh Mariner transferring in from UCONN I am more optimistic. I still have big expectations for Lawry and Cox to be a huge tandem as our work horses on offense. I hope there are some gems in the incoming Freshman class and some Red shirts from last year that will fill in the holes. Time will tell. I believe the Hampton game will be very telling and a good barometer that could set the stage for the seasons outcome.

Old Dominion Hail

Bailey Cate not only punts, he can also kick off, and he put many of his kickoffs into the end zone his senior year. Though I expect Kirtley to hold onto his job as our kicker for extra points and field goals, Cate appears to have a stronger leg, and I would not be surprised to see him handling the kick off chores and perhaps even being the long field goal specialist.

I also liked what I saw towards the end of the year with Strong and Pascal returning kickoffs. Basically, I expect improvement in special teams across the board, and it may well be responsible for one or two wins we otherwise would not see this year.

RE: Simulation / predicted odds for ODU's Football outcome (2016 season)
Special teams consistently gave up 5-10 yards on kick offs simply by not putting the ball in the end zone. Opposing teams consistently returned the ball to the 30-35 yard line. Conversely, teams were ahead if they only kicked to say the 10 yard line, cause we rarely got the ball past the 20 on kick returns.

If our Freshman punter/kicker can deliver the ball constantly in the end zone and we can stop them on the return and not give up the 15-30 yards to start the play like last year, we will win more games. We will also need to see better results from our return team. If we can flip the field on them this year, it could be the difference in us becoming Bowl eligible.

We need a kicker on kickoff who can put it in the end zone. I havent seen footage of Cate doing kickoffs, how far in the end zone? High school also kickoff from the 40 vs. college at the 35

Here's his Hudl video. Check out the kickoffs at the 3:00 mark. Several were out of the endzone and most were at least five yards deep. Of course, these were the ones on the highlight reel, but he will be an improvement for sure, and we should get some touchbacks.

Cate, Bailey The followingg is his Kohl's Professional Camp information. He has picked up a little bulk and he now is listed at 218 Wt. 6' 4" Ht.

# 24 on the Kohl's Ranking from over 300 Senior HS camp attendees in 2016 - Cate, Bailey 175 6' 3" 5 star camp rating. Cate attended the Senior Challenge in Jan of 2016 and showed college level punting ability. Cate has a nice frame and his hands and consistency are very impressive. Cate is new to Kohl's but is a very good punting prospect, one of the more game ready players in the 2016 class. He hit multiple 4.8 hang-times in Dec at camp. He is also a good HS kicker and can KO.
