Georgia Southern Football Cheated Academically
http://www.cbssports.com/college-footbal...ass-class/

"As the semester progressed, neither student-athlete appeared to be in a position to pass the course. Therefore, and unbeknownst to the student-athletes, the former assistant director of student-athlete services drafted and submitted five extra credit assignments on behalf of each student-athlete. Specifically, from November and December 2014, she obtained the student-athletes' login and password information, drafted and submitted extra credit assignments. Based on their previous academic work, however, the assignments did not result in a passing grade for either student-athlete."
In another bold act, the NCAA said a former Georgia Southern assistant compliance director gave a football player a flash drive containing coursework from a class she previously took. The player used the flash drive to submit the coursework as his own.

What's funny is the player with the flash drive was an ECU graduate transfer. Obviously that ECU education didn't prepare him for the rigors of Ga Southern (or maybe he was used to having his coursework done for him).

Here's the announcement that links up time wise with the investigation.

GSU SLOTBACK TORRANCE HUNT SUSPENDED

Georgia Southern athletic director Tom Kleinlein said Thursday that Eagles slotback Torrance Hunt violated team and university policy and is suspended indefinitely.

Kleinlein said Hunt’s suspension was not linked to a criminal or legal matter but could potentially be an NCAA issue.

“When it became more than a team issue, I became involved and made the decision,” Kleinlein said. “Coach (Jeff) Monken was in agreement.”

Kleinlein said Hunt could continue to practice and lift weights with the football team but would not participate in games until the issue was cleared.

Hunt, a graduate student who had attended East Carolina, was using his final year of eligibility to play at Georgia Southern. He didn’t have to sit out a year because GSU offered a graduate degree (instructional technology) he was pursuing that East Carolina did not offer.

Hunt gave the Eagles speed on the outside in the triple-option offense. He was GSU’s third-leading rusher with 164 yards (10.3 yards a carry) and had scored a touchdown in each of the team’s first three games.

Let me preface this by saying this is purely an assumption.

My belief on this is that many players (stars or not) get catered to and put up on a pedestal the majority of their playing career. Many are given school work (test, papers, etc) and rarely do it themselves. When you reach a certain level of academia and you have never done anything on your own, you basically have to continue to cheat due to not knowing wtf you are doing or how to do it. Kind of like covering up a lie with a lie. You can't start to tell the truth past a certain point, you just have to continue bs'n your way out of it.

I'm not that cynical - yet. I do believe it's probably not a rare occurrence. Way back in the day my wife worked at University of Louisville in the sociology department. One day she had a student come in to make up an exam they missed. She told him to leave his book bag with her and gave him the test. He said he was taking his book in with him and she told him it wasn't permitted. He gave her the "don't you know who I am" line, to which she replied no and told him it didn't matter. He just left without taking the test.

It was Browning Nagle during the Fiesta Bowl season for them.
