Other than the small FSU bubble college age nightlife it's very Southern with rolling hills with thick forests instead of palm trees everywhere. It might be a decent place to raise a young family but it's very slow and isolated from the other big cities in Florida.
I was going to note that Tally isn't at all like much of what "tourists/visitors" think of when FLORIDA comes to mind...which isn't a bad thing.
As noted...the rolling hills (at least as Floridians are concerned), much more "country style living" which will be similar to some smaller metro areas in NC.
Because its the Capital, there are a lot of non-FSU fans in FLA (tons of UF Fans...many that went to UF), so you won't fall short in finding those that don't like the local team.
College games are usually a blast...and odds are..you and/or your family will be invited to a game...and when ECU is off or playing earlier or later in the day...just like at many other colleges, you will probably have a good time.
Welcome to FLA...and congrats on not having to pay anymore State Income Tax.
PS. And yes, it does get COLD in Tally (especially at night) in the winter...as its generally the coldest spot in the state during the winter...as on average, 34 nights per year the temperature will dip below 32 degrees compared to 2 nights per year in Orlando.
Its also extremely hot in the summer months...so at least you can enjoy the "extremes" in temperatures.
