RE: NCAA Sanctions Coming to Georgia Southern
Penalties and corrective measures include the following:

Public reprimand and censure for the university.

Two years of probation for the university from July 7, 2016, to July 6, 2018.

Three-year show-cause orders for the former assistant compliance director and former assistant director of student-athlete services from July 7, 2016, to July 6, 2019. During that time, an NCAA school employing either individual must appear with the individual before a Committee on Infractions panel.

A vacation of records in which student-athletes participated while ineligible. After the release of the public report, the university will identify the competition affected.

A reduction of two scholarships for the football program during 2016-17. If the university already has extended the scholarship agreements to prospects for 2016-17, the university may serve the reduction during 2017-18.

A reduction in the number of official visits for the football program during 2016-17 by 10 percent from the university’s four-year average.

A reduction of fall 2016 football evaluations by 10 percent from its four-year average.

A $5,000 fine plus an amount equal to 1 percent of the football program’s operating budget (self-imposed by the university).

Quote:A former assistant director of student-athlete services also violated NCAA ethical conduct rules when she drafted and submitted 10 extra credit assignments on behalf of two football student-athletes. She obtained the student-athletes’ login and passwords, and submitted the assignments without the student-athletes’ knowledge.

Quote:This case began on September 16, 2013, when a professor notified the former head football
coach of a possible academic violation involving a football student-athlete (student-athlete 1).
The institution initiated an investigation. On September 18, 2013, the institution immediately
interviewed student-athlete 1 and the former assistant compliance director (former assistant
compliance director). The former assistant compliance director denied any wrongdoing, and at
the conclusion of the interview, the institution terminated her employment. As a result of this
termination, there were no further interviews conducted to explore her actions or intentions. The
institution continued investigating the matter, including follow-up interviews with studentathlete
1. Later, the institution self-reported a violation involving the former assistant
compliance director to the NCAA enforcement staff on February 10, 2014.

Hopefully these players were seniors during 2013...or on the scout team...could mean giving up wins in 2013, including Florida

2016 Georgia Southern Public Decision

This was kept impressively quiet for the amount of time this investigation was going on.

Seems this could be for a player that played two games at the start of the 2013 season and then ruled ineligible. The timing would line up... so I guess we would have to vacate Savannah State... St. Francis and the Wofford Loss... those dates were just before Sept 18.

No clue, but I would think you'd see language like "postseason".

Yep. We dodged a bullet, but we're on thin ice. Still waiting to see which games we have to vacate though. Could mean we vacate the Sunbelt Championship in 2014

You don't vacate losses. Similarly, you don't get the W when an opponent has to forfeit a W they got playing you.

Torrance Hunt, the ECU grad transfer? Yeah, he played I think two games in early 2013 and never saw the field again.

2013 Torrance Hunt Suspension:

http://savannahnow.com/sports-latest-new...-suspended

GSU SLOTBACK TORRANCE HUNT SUSPENDED

Quote:Georgia Southern athletic director Tom Kleinlein said Thursday that Eagles slotback Torrance Hunt violated team and university policy and is suspended indefinitely.

Kleinlein said Hunt’s suspension was not linked to a criminal or legal matter but could potentially be an NCAA issue.

“When it became more than a team issue, I became involved and made the decision,” Kleinlein said. “Coach (Jeff) Monken was in agreement.”

Kleinlein said Hunt could continue to practice and lift weights with the football team but would not participate in games until the issue was cleared.

Hunt, a graduate student who had attended East Carolina, was using his final year of eligibility to play at Georgia Southern. He didn’t have to sit out a year because GSU offered a graduate degree (instructional technology) he was pursuing that East Carolina did not offer.

Hunt gave the Eagles speed on the outside in the triple-option offense. He was GSU’s third-leading rusher with 164 yards (10.3 yards a carry) and had scored a touchdown in each of the team’s first three games.

RE: NCAA Sanctions Coming to Georgia Southern
Yeah this isn't nearly as bad as it could have been. I'm positive 1 of the 2 is the Torrence Hunt situation which is old news, and only means vacating 2 wins in an otherwise meaningless season.

My concern is who the other player is. If it's a high profile guy who played every game then we could be looking at vacating a LOT of wins and potentially a conference title and/or bowl game win. This is when beating the snot out of teams during the 2014 season might come back to haunt us, there were a lot of scout team and third string guys that saw PT at the end of those games.

RE: NCAA Sanctions Coming to Georgia Southern
The 2nd violation:
Quote:In December 2014, the former assistant director of student-athlete services
knowingly provided two student-athletes with impermissible academic
assistance

The former assistant director of student-athlete services submitted 10 extra credit
papers on behalf of two student-athletes without their knowledge. She obtained
their usernames and passwords, drafted five extra credit papers for each, logged
in to their accounts and submitted the papers for credit. Her conduct violated
NCAA Bylaws 10 and 16.

By then the season was over, so this should not change the 2014 record.
