Sounds like Rice's version of Jim Wacker. Or , since Conover came first, Wacker was TCU's version of Conover. Lots of energy and enthusiasm, some relative success at a tough places to win, but didn't get all the way to the mountaintop.

Interesting analogy. I don't think I've ever thought of it that way, and I knew both men personally, but I can certainly see the similarities.
