Why USM sometimes seems so arrogant (from a newbie)....
...and to borrow a radio cliche: "longtime 'listener', first time 'caller'" 04-cheers

I frequently read on here how USM (or Marshall) direly wants to leave our friends in C-USA for the AAC, MAC or ANYWHERE, ANYPLACE, that is NOT C-USA. I'm sure the fans of current teams in C-USA that have been handing us our azzes lately (such as WKU), probably wonder why many of us think we "deserve" better surroundings.

Now, I usually like to quote William Munny when someone says they "deserve" something ("deserves got nothing to do with it"), but for a lack of a better term, I'M USING IT RIGHT NOW!04-rock Those same folks who have seen a struggling Golden Eagles program since they entered the league, may not know the last few years has never happened before....nor do they perhaps not know the sheer dominance we had over former C-USA programs who fled to greener pastures.

For example(s): USM 27 wins ECU 12 wins
USM 40 Memphis 22
USM 23 Tulane 7
USM 9 Houston 5

So, not only did we dominate over the years ('cept for the destructive years wrought by Granpappy 'EJ' Dumbarse), we won more titles and won more C-USA games than any of our peers, by a longshot.

So, it's nothing against fine programs like WKU or La Tech....we are just disappointed our heirarchy (you know, the ones that hired Johnson and Tyndall) failed to successfully market our 105 year football program to the above teams that once provided what ever rivals we had.

That is all.

Welcome to the board, but with all due respect, your history is well known. You're certainly not telling me anything I didn't already know and I expect that's the case for the majority of us, new to CUSA or not.

Echoing MTPK, it's not your school's history that's got us bewildered. That is well-known and most impressive.

Our confusion instead is mostly sourced from our inability to make "heads or tails" of any of stinkfist's posts.

So you want to arbitrarily pick out your best years and force your 'peers' to include your down years? Seems pretty one sided.

I suppose some may take an alternate view and see how USM benefited from being in a conference with some high profile programs and they leveraged conference affiliation to their own success. However, from the moment that this conference needed USM to step up and be the premier program they immediately shat the bed in football and brought shame to basketball with the Donnie Tyndall fiasco.

I suppose there are no mirrors in your house?

At my age I have declared all mirrors illegal in my house!04-bow

"Axe-ually"....I didn't cherry pick anything, just gave ya the hard cold facts concerning our success in C-USA. Did I misrepresent anything? I don't think so (In fact, I coulda also mentioned our multiple wins over Bama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Okie State, Illinois, FSU, Va Tech, Nebraska, TCU...but I won't.....Whoops, I guess I did!05-nono)

As for Tyndall, I can assure you USM fans everywhere are flabbergasted by, and angry at, his shameful activities.

Let the games begin my friends...04-rock

Ok let's go by that... With our basketball history we should be in a much better conference. It's not what you did in the last dude. It's what you have done recently and honestly southern miss has sucked. So don't complain about being left out when you haven't consistently been great and don't live in a big market (Tulane) and don't have a program in anything other than football (Memphis basketball). You sound like a whiny b!tc#

At the end of the Championship game against WKU last year, I wasn't feeling arrogant. I am very proud of our past, but being arrogant right now is plain stupidity. Winning Championships is what matters and in football we have yet to win one in this latest version of CUSA.

I'm Banned in Boston!04-rock

Nope..I don't think I'm THAT guy...whoever that guy is.

By arrogant, I simply meant the idea that a lot of USM fans have concerning C-USA, which is GET THE HELL OUT. I believe I noted we have sucked lately, that WKU has beaten us like lil' chil'ren, and there are some other programs in C-USA who should be very proud of their accomplishments also.

My post probably oversimplified the subject, but I didn't want to write War and Peace
my very first time.

I guess some folks just love to fight and get angry

I call BS on your claims about frequently reading MU & USM fans wanting to go to the AAC. Possibly a couple of the same ones frequently making those claims but hardly the majority.

You can talk about Southern Miss's wins over all of those programs all you want but USM has never capitalized on those wins to get to a major bowl game, have a Top 10 finish nor have a significant following as far as fan support goes.

Southern Miss is still in CUSA for a reason and they have nobody to blame but themselves.

I would add that probably the bottom line for USM being left behind is being in a small TV market. I know it contributed to Western being left out of the old Metro, and other early CUSA incarnations. I really don't see the powers that be picking up the campus and moving to Jackson, so it falls to taking timely advantage of high on field performance, or getting the legislature on board - like when Va Tech got the invite to the ACC. I'm still amazed they got the call up, considering how small and isolated Blacksburg is
