New DB recruit
Heard a rumor that Kareem Felder a 2016 cornerback who originally signed with OSU will be attending UT this fall. He was not eligible for OSU because he didn't have enough core credits and under a new propr 48 rule will be eligible at some D1 schools now. He was considering a Junior College prior to this. Kareem will be able to be on scholarship and practice this coming season, but won't be able to play in games. This report was from his High School coach at Franklin HS in Baltimore. Kareem was highly thought of by OSU as a true cover corner with outstanding speed. He was listed at 5'11" 175 lbs. If this is true this would be a big boost to the DB room in the future.

His offer list was impressive. This would be a great get if he stays beyond straightening out his academics.

Sounds like a "recommendation," like Ely was from Saban. Was he even on our recruiting lists? Eh, maybe that doesn't make sense. BG would be the more likely recommendation from Meyer, wouldn't it?

However, the MAC has a good rep with it's WRs so it's not a bad place for a CB to make a name either. You'll be defending against some of the best.

The link shows offers from both Ohio State and Alabama, among others, but also lists a Toledo offer. Apparently someone at UT made enough of an impression that he saw the Rockets as the best plan B.

RE: New DB recruit
UT cornerback coach Corey Robinson used to be DC at St. Francis HS in Baltimore area, and CB coach at Calvert also in MD, and is apparently more than an acquaintance of Felder. Robinson is a huge fan of Felder's play and I am sure was instrumental in getting Felder to attend UT.

Robinson is paying huge dividends in MD and Blackwell in FL

All good if true and it probably is true

really excited with the direction Candle has the recruiting headed. Also, seems that his staff are excellent recruiters also.

Rockets were one of his very first offers. He committed and decommitted from Va Tech as the Alabama, Clemson., etc. type offers came in.

RE: New DB recruit
This just shows the recruiting rankings do not tell the whole story. We have added several solid players to the program via the transfer route. Candle and staff are doing an excellent job of finding guys who can fill needs.

I don't see how a 3-star player is a big "get" for Toledo, like stated in the article. Sure, we could use him and he seems like he must have quite a bit of talent with his offer sheet but we've gotten players of his caliber before...nearly every year.

Suppose to be very underrated, this was a loss OSU wanted to prevent as they felt he could be a lock down corner in a couple years. Similar to Bradley Roby who was also a 3 star out of HS and a 1st round pick by Denver a couple years ago.

right, 3 of the AP top 4 teams were fighting for him at the end. i think we recruited him earlier and he always liked toledo. you can't blame him for signing with a national champ team that plays in front of 110,000 and was recruiting him hard. it shows his potential. works out that he doesn't play this year. because he won't have as much pressure and can learn, get coached up, and condition before taking the field. no guarantees he will be an early entry 1st round draft choice. jordan haden was a national top 15 db recruit who enrolled at florida but didn't stay or ever play there and ended up at UT. He had a couple stretches of excellent play but periods of being injured, second on the depth chart or not cleared by the ncaa.

I think 3 stars are always "big gets" for MAC goals.

Not anymore and a lot of it has to due with recruiting service trying to
sell their subscriptions. Way too many 3 star athletes for certain States that are not known for turning out FB talent.

RE: New DB recruit
According to the Scout site we have a DB graduate transfer from Virginia Tech coming on board who can play this year for one year. That means we have graduate transfers coming from Virginia Tech, Miami of Florida and Florida so far for next year. Reuben Carter coming from FSU last year worked out real well so maybe the staff has an appetite for some more graduate transfers.

RE: New DB recruit
we also have a Notre Dame dline transfer eligible to play this season after rs last yr.

frye, the virgina tech db transfer ,started at safety in their upset of OSU last yr. i'm assuming he battles with delando johnson for the open fs role which now goes from questionable to pretty deep
