Monty has his work cut out getting players enough minutes. Team seems to be loaded with a roster full of starters. To be a good team guys and their family's and friends are going to have to except their roles!

Good watch. The hard work and discipline he has just isn't seen much these days and in this generation. He's going to be special

You could have added AAU coaches and "advisors." One of the biggest problems college coaches have to deal with now - all of the above telling players they deserve more PT and more "respect."

Huskiebob, you are 100% correct! I cringe every time I hear or read a tweet from a NIU bball player talking about getting to the NBA. I believe German can be good but it's going to be hard for him to just get ahead of Porter, Wilson and Highsmith over the next three years. So if he doesn't start this year does he leave?

Yes, but the jury is still out on Highsmith. There is nothing to indicate that he will be back to his old form after being sidelined with injury after injury. That has to take a toll.

We've had 2 players in recent years get shots in the NBA (Silas and Nader). Why is it bad to have a kid strive to get to the top level of his sport/passion??? That makes zero sense to me. This kid is a determined young man who obviously has his properties straight, a good family around him and great work ethic. It's not some kid coming in who is full of himself. German is a self made player, he's good bc of all the work he put in not just natural ability so love that he's pushing for the NBA and has a goal he's working towards.

This is a 6ft, bow legged, vastly underrated kid who has out worked everyone to get where he's at and made all he sacrifices in order to do so. I LOVE that and I'm rooting for him to achieve his goals

Do you realize that at major and midmajor programs every kids dream is to someday go to the NBA? If everybody the Huskies recruited were this hungry we'd be winning the MAC and in the tournament every year. I love his hunger. It's going to be contagious. When your winning, players find a way to co- exist period. You need player with that attitude to succeed. Sounds like he has a real chip on his shoulder. Which is the same attitude that elevated our Football program. As for Highsmith I would be surprised if he's not coming off the bench when he's ready. If German starts as a Freshman it will be simply because he outworked the other guys.

I'm all for dreams. How many MAC players are in the NBA? Maybe one. There are 400 some players in the world who are currently in the NBA. I'm sure Porter, Wilson and maybe even Dontel think they also can make the NBA. This is why players transfer like crazy. I have to start and play and be on TV so the NBA scouts see me.

The best way to be seen is to make it to the Big dance. Steph Curry put Davidson on the map which is how people started to really pay them attention. Lots of examples of small schools with big time players. Be so good that they have to see you. It's been a long time since NIU was a real contender for basketball in the MAC

PG - Porter to start, German by midseason
SG - Wilson/Armstead
F- Bradley
F- Key
C - Maric

Highsmith will be a key reserve and Id love to see Pauga get more minutes this year

I think Wilson and Armstead will switch off between starting. Monty likes Wilson as a spark 6th man but he's just too good not to start. He's a big piece of the future of our squad, Monty needs to start him and give him more minutes, no disrespect to Armstead

I will go with: Porter starts backup German, Wilson starts backup Highsmith, Armstead starts backup Pauga, Bradley starts backup Key and Maric starts backup Key/Zelis. I do not see German starting this season.

I was thinking Armstead at SF, but I really think we need to get these young guys as much PT as possible and let them learn from mistakes. If like the idea of going bigger with Bradley, Key and Marcic as bigs with Porter/German and Wilson. Can't wait to see if Bradley bulked up at all this offseason. If he could gain about 20/30 lbs by the time he's done he could be a force

Porter, Armstead, Maric. About set in stone unless Porter implodes--then Thomas steps in and, I predict, does well. Bradley may start ahead of Key but no way do both start--neither can guard a three man. Highsmith starts on the other wing with Wilson and German first off the bench. Look for Dontel to play some point. Pauga to see minutes against zone. Big Z backs up MM. Siu will get some wing time. Wisconsin frosh shooter, Indy point and Sterling big may be redshirt candidates unless injuries dictate otherwise.

I think it's worth the risk starting both Bradley and Key personally bc I don't see a lot of 3s in the MAC being able to guard them either. I just want to see as many of these young guys on the floor at once as possible.

PG - Porter to start as well( secretly but not secretly hoping Germans earns the spot)
SG - Wilson (no doubt)
F- Bradley
F- Key
C - Maric

Highsmith, Armstead, Zellis makes for a strong bench. Looking for Highsmith to be a vocal leader.

Cagey can you let people know how Highsmith is doing many are counting him out. I feel Dontel still can be as good as anybody on the team.

I don't think that anybody is counting him out. It's just that while he's been out due to injury, the talent level at NIU has been elevating, and he may have to work harder to be the focal point of the team.Until he can prove otherwise, "it is what it is". He's a role player.
