Build Your own Conference Game.
Ok, I am bored and got to thinking. What if there was a way to build your own conference using only teams you have played with as a conference mate in the past? What is your proverbial All-Star Conference? Limit it to ten and post next to the team you chose the conference you shared at one time. Distance and travel are not factors

Pilot's Great American Conference

1. Mississippi Southern (SIAA, Gulf South Conference & CUSA)
2. Boise State (WAC)
3. Fresno State (WAC)
4. Rice (WAC & CUSA)
5. SMU (WAC)
6. Hawaii (WAC
7. Memphis State (Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Association)
8. Miami (FLA) (SIAA)
9. Nevada (Big West & WAC)
10. Marshall (CUSA)

RE: Build Your own Conference Game.
Arizona (WAC)
Arizona St (WAC)
Utah (WAC)
BYU (WAC)
Boise St (WAC)
San Diego St (WAC)
Colorado St (WAC)
Houston (CUSA)
TCU (WAC)
UTEP (CUSA)

It's sad to think that at one time we played against those schools in the same conference. Now they have all moved on to bigger and better things.

RE: Build Your own Conference Game.
This is going to get ugly. Count me in.

1) Louisville (Metro & CUSA)
2) Cincinnati (CUSA)
3) Virginia Tech (Metro)
4) Memphis (CUSA)
5) ECU (CUSA)
6) UAB (Sun Belt & CUSA)
7) ODU (Sun Belt & CUSA)
8) WKU (Sun Belt & CUSA)
9) Marshall (CUSA)
10) Southern Miss (Metro & CUSA)

I passed up TCU (CUSA) and Houston (CUSA) because I actually would like to have a more regional conference, but they would have been good choices otherwise.

Tech never played with TCU and Houston, but as an old SWC fan, they would have made my top ten easy.

RE: Build Your own Conference Game.
ODU would be very difficult to do because most of its ex-conference mates are FCS or non-football. Anyhow

Basketball:

VCU (Sun Belt/CAA)
Richmond (CAA)
JMU (CAA)
George Mason (CAA)
Charlotte (Sun Belt)
UAB (Sun Belt)
Western Kentucky (Sun Belt)
William & Mary (CAA)
UNC Wilmington (CAA)
Tulsa (CUSA)
Jacksonville (Sun Belt)

Football (fudging the rules to include teams that shared all-sports conference affiliations with ODU while ODU didn't field football):

Charlotte
UAB
Western Kentucky
Tulsa
East Carolina (CAA/CUSA)
Navy (ECAC South)
South Florida (Sun Belt)
Massachusetts (CAA)
Georgia State (CAA)
South Alabama (Sun Belt)
Tulane (CUSA)

It was easy for me until UAB and ODU. The top 7 are mostly schools I love to hate.

Can't argue with your selection but would add Virginia Tech (Metro) to get 11 and we make 12

South- Houston, TCU, Tulane, USM, Memphis, FSU
North - Louisville, Cincy, Marshall, ECU, Va Tech, South Carolina

Never share a conference with Louisville. Rule of thumb.

RE: Build Your own Conference Game.
Small sidenote: How different would this conference be right now if we'd grabbed Boise St in 2005 instead of say SMU or UTEP (love the miners don't hate)? We likely would have lost them in 2012 anyway, but we also might have convinced everyone to stay together when the Big East thing backfired, or have been taken more seriously from a competitive standpoint before the realignment crap hit the fan.

Seeing that the former WAC teams played with Boise just made me think of that. Sorry for the derailment.

Or if the idea of merging C-USA of back then with the MWC. Would have been far flung but interesting and a lot of fun. UTEP admin thought it was a done deal for a while and the thought of UTEP having conference members east and west and in Texas too? Too much. The Big East screwed it all up.

Or.... maybe Boise loses an extra game or two per season and never play their way into the BCS games. They would have been good but the travel alone would have made it much tougher for those Boise State teams.
