Pretty thorough takedown on California's dumb decision to close their last nuclear facility down.

No doubt a lot of greens are not about reducing emissions as much as they are about feeling good.

RE: How not to Deal with Climate Change.
If you thought the cost of living in Cali was high now, just wait until they have to purchase even more expensive power from across state lines.

Remember a decade or so ago when this happened, and California postured themselves and told those out of state providers that they would pay only so much for power and not one penny more? And the out of state providers told California to GFY. Then they had the rolling brownouts. Fun times.

Why do you think Germany has so much renewable energy? Its not because they are trying to control carbon. Its because they decided to shut down all their nuclear power plants.

Germany adopted an aggressive plan for green energy before they shut down their nuclear plants. They shut those down on a whim because of Fukushima then accelerated their green energy program.

y'all really freak me out with these arguments....

is nuculer (in bush terms) the cheapest.....yep....

is nuculer/humans/residual best method???? easily arguable....

some of yaz only see 0'day....

best method is investing in developing green/renewable coupled with oil.....y'all can kiss my nuts with the nuculer thingy....I'm old enough to understand anal leakage...

prove it first....then I'll bite....that half-life thingy can be a biatch.....

As far as I know, Germany has not shut down their nuclear reactors. They plan to shut them down in 6 years or so.

In the meantime, they are building coal powered plants to replace the power lost from nuclear.

But yea, green.

as they should....

nuculer waste containment is kinda one of those long term issues in both operation and storage....

I can't help but to intentionally misspell it....

And now what are they going to do when England stops paying for it?

Did you actually read the article? Renewable energy doesn't grow at an exponential rate or even at a linear rate. If Germany is actually dumb enough to close their remaining nuclear power plants the remaining power will have to be made up by fossil fuels.

Yeah and Harry Reid has done his best to ameliorate the situation.

Germany is about 27% renewables. They have some of the highest electric prices in the world because they are on an aggressive program to shut down all their nuclear power plants.

yes....my argument has always been against operational construction and storage regarding nuclear....

cost is relative....

and investing in renewable energy to the point where it makes sense isn't like it was back in 1900s during the oil boom/growth invasion in this country....

toss in I was agreeing with coal as an equitable replacement, and I'm not sure what you're pointing out about my response....

I'm anti nuclear until I'm satisfied with the ability to control....and I have yet to see that occur....one thing this country has shown me in evolution is that we initially build things then ignore the maintenance side of the equation...

that's my problem with the radioactive....

Correct. Siemens had a one way conversation with Merkel and her green ambitions and she instead just decided to increase the amount of renewables rather than shut down nuclear completely.

As for California, I hope Nevada and Washington gouge the f**k out of them for functionally off-shoring the burden of energy generation for the sake of appearance. I always love how environmental groups always talk about some new tech breakthrough will make their green dreams reality yet never actually take the time to study the thermodynamic limitations that prevent such miracles.
