RE: College World Series: Coastal Carolina wins national championship
ark,

A - so you agree that Coastal having a football team is what got it the SB invite, regardless how good their baseball program is. Good, we're on the same page then.

B - I'll happily agree that sports anchors at OTA stations in the Myrtle market should build up their resume reels by doing local interest stories, not by making trips to Clemson and USC stadiums to interview players and coaches.

What the heck does that have to do with the point??? Why can't you just agree that Myrtle OTA stations are going to show the big game highlights first on their nightly/evening news sports segments?? Just like they do in the Ark. markets. It doesn't prove anything. I'm not trying to prove something about Coastal or Ark St. Just recognizing realities: Sun Belt football programs are less popular than the main football programs in Sun Belt states. There's nothing inherently wrong with that.

The tangent can stop here and we can agree to disagree. PM me if you want, or reply on here if you want. Back to our regularly scheduled program.

There's no reason to think that Coastal football or basketball can't led the Myrtle Beach sportscast or be the lead sports story in the Sun-News most days, even with Clemson and South Carolina playing. ODU deals with a larger, more transient market and still takes the lead on newscasts and in the Virginian-Pilot way more often than Virginia and Virginia Tech, even though obviously both still get very good play in Tidewater and have tons of alum there.

ark RE: Sun Belt invite -- you're ducking the question on a technicality of the voting rules and seems like you knew what my point was. So since it's a hypothetical anyway, then let's say it only required 50% vote to rescind the invite. I think we can agree that football (potential) is why Coastal was invited, with baseball a bonus. If Coastal never had a football team, Sun Belt wouldn't have even looked them up.

ark RE: "how to build your reel" -- don't be ridiculous, if the sports segment is coming on and it's Saturday night or evening news show ... people in the state of course want highlights of the big games, Clemson and USC. I'm sure they can also show highlights of the Coastal game, after. I can't possibly imagine why you (or anyone) would think Coastal a failure if the local market OTA don't emphasize Coastal highlights first, before the big state-wide games.

Georgia Southern is located in the Savannah market and gets 3x the coverage that Georgia has. Macon TV and newspapers cover the Eagles and we get some air time in Augusta and Atlanta as well so I know for a fact it can be done.

We're speaking from our experience. I don't know how it is in other states, but Arkansas State is considered #1 priority in the Jonesboro market. Its the policy of the sports department that the order goes like this

Lead: Arkansas State Sports

Secondary: Local High Schools

Third: Other IN State schools including Razorbacks

Fourth: Grizzlies/Cardinals

We are the lead in all Jonesboro Sports...there is nothing saying Coastal can't do the same thing in Myrtle Beach.

Coastal gets equal coverage when you factor the importance of the games and the opponents.

Clemson plays FSU that is the lead USC Alabama for Coastal it has to be a important game.

I posted this on the Sun belt board but figured I should post here as well.

TCU took out a full page add congratulating Coastal. Very classy and nice gesture.

One thing about the coverage- The Myrtle Beach area TV stations- at least some of them service not only Myrtle Beach but also Florence. Florence is pretty near Columbia, so a lot of Gamecock coverage there quite frankly.
