Maybe some fellows can relate and give some cool man cave ideas or just laugh at my expense. I know this is crazy because my wife says so. My wife this weekend found my coffin size Rubbermaid storage container I've been toting around for the better part of my life full of ODU hats. These are not just hats these hats are like trophies for me. They all have a story and a memory. I tried to explain to her some of the stories like the sweat stain monarch hat with notches on the bill for every soul saved during hurricane Katrina disaster relief, an ODU hat I bleached during my time overseas to help keep me cooler in the desert sun, the ODU camo hat I hunted with, kickoff 2009 hat, the hat I was wearing during the VT win. I have probably 200 plus hats in my container. I'm looking for ideas because she is threatening to drop them off at the DAV thrift store in two weeks if I can't come up with a project. I thought about hiding them in the crawlspace under the house until I can figure out a plan.

Try to relate it to something she has. Does she have old family photos? Old yearbooks? A collection of spoons? Anything like that.. just try to put it into her terms. These hats are like your family photos or yearbook, when you look back at these there is a fond memory attached to each one. Without them, some of these memories long ago would be gone forever.

Worst case, find a friend (or someone on here) to stash them for you if they absolutely must leave the house

Edit - forgot to mention, if you want ideas for a project, try pinterest. Search "old hat display" or something like that. Pretty unique ideas to brainstorm with if you can turn them into a project instead of getting rid of them

1)Get one of those vacuum bags to make your collection smaller
2) Pile up all of your wife's shoes on the bed and declare in the spirit of getting organized that 1/2 of them should go.

Someone gave me a neat idea for the hats. I'm not a quilt person but found a quilter who can make a display quilt out of the hats.

If you never got around to grabbing conference champs gear for MBB, it is on deep discount from the bookstore right now.
