Ever since this process started, Coach Melendez was my favorite. His ability to do more with less at Alabama State and Bethune Cookman will serve him well at FIU. Congratulations Coach Melendez and welcome to FIU!

Solid, solid, hire. Already nabbed 2 preseason 1st Team All American players to commit to FIU. Very unlikely they will ever play an inning for FIU, but it does create excitement and a buzz recruiting wise. I think this guy can make FIU again competitive year in and year out. Love this hire!

Coach Melendez is an AMAZING guy! Nothing but love and respect for him. He was ALWAYS out promoting ASU and was very active on campus with the students. We wish him nothing but the best.

Perfect Game has named the FIU recruiting class of 2017, the #1 recruiting class in the nation, we are the WKU of Baseball!!! FIU signed the most Top 100 players in the nation and is the only non-power 5 team in the top 25. Now, you can bet that those 8 Top 100 players will, most likely, sign MLB contracts but the numbers in the class means that there are a great deal of talented players below those top tiers that should make it on campus. Pretty exciting, also, as of today FIU has the #10 class in 2018.

Coach Melendez has done an outstanding job recruiting so far for FIU. The great thing about him is that he has turned the two perennial losers programs he has coached into their respective conference's champs year in and year out. At FIU, he has a program with a lot more successful history and appeal than at Bethune and Alabama State, and the early indications are great. Congrats to Coach Melendez in assembling the #1 recruiting class in the nation!!
