The Battle Creek Bombers recently had open carry 2nd Amendment night. A local league cancelled their tournament that night out of safety fears. My daughter has an internship there, tough night for mom and dad. Never saw so many guns in my life.

A tragedy, no doubt about that. My condolences.

That being said, it is a strange situation. The responsible ownership and use of firearms is a cornerstone of American society, but the key word being 'responsible'. Zurlon apparently had a legal permit to concealed carry, but if that was the case...why not CARRY the weapon? Why was it in a bag? If you don't wish to carry it, why was it not in a case? Why was the weapon loaded, with a round in the chamber? Why was the safety off? Why was he handling the bag/firearm in such a reckless and dangerous fashion? Why was the weapon oriented in a direction that put himself at risk?

Firearms do not discharge of their own accord. Was this a case of extremely bad luck? Is something being left out of the story? Is this a case of extreme stupidity? Or perhaps some combination of all 3...

So many questions.
