The United States is a nation built entirely on the rule of law. If our basic foundation law (the Constitution) is ignored by those in power, what is there left to keep the nation together, sentiment?

Oh, I agree. The hate-mongering right invented crazy media and its far more prevalent. But even if one extreme is larger than the other, both extremes are, well, extreme and use hate of the other side to push an agenda. That was my point - if I had a point.

It's a living document and original intent needs to die with Scalia. Thomas Jefferson wasn't being ironic when he wrote, as a slaveholder, that all men are entitled to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

There is an amendment process laid out in the document, but skipping that and circumventing the law is illegal no matter how you term it.

I have no idea how anyone would teach the Constitution to kids in this day and age anyway since its plain language doesn't mean what it says.

Constitutional law is basically becoming like something co-authored by L. Ron Hubbard and Charles Manson. Where it has English words, but that's where the resemblance ends.

Its all fun and games getting to make up what the Constitution is until the worm turns and people you don't like...and don't like you....get to make it up instead.

And before you know it there are no checks and balances and no limits on power of the people who don't like you...or your religion...or your sexual orientation....or your race....or your political philosophy....or your sense of freedom...and you have no civic religion to fall back on for protection.

They said that if fascism ever comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag....but it will really be wrapped in an imperial Presidency and a Constitution made up of random meaningless words that you can make into anything you want.
