If it's that bad, pull the diplomats from Russia and expel the Russian diplomats from the US. For actions in other European countries, respond in kind. The problem is people like Putin do not respect weak people. Our foreign policy has been weak for some time. Repeated "red lines" being drawn that Syria routinely crossed, etc.

Wow. Obama is a spineless weasel.

You stop this by talking about it publically and using some form of retaliation.

Putin is taking Obama's measure and finding him lacking.

On a serious note, it does show how painfully weak the Obama administration is.

Really? You will just ask them to stop because they are being mean?

Russians have been bitter since the fall of communism. It's not like they all want a return to the pure Soviet days. But a lot of them, especially those in higher up positions in government and industry, felt humiliated and defeated for years.

Those guys had no intention of becoming a freer, capitalistic society like Poland and Czech once the walls came down. The authoritarian streak is strong over there, and with Putin, they have a savior who promises to return a more militaristic, bombastic Mother Russia to its place on the world's stage.

It's a shame about this Slavic-West divide, really. Instead of fighting with each other, we should be cooperating against common enemies (i.e. jihadis).

For what it's worth, I did story on a Belarussian doctor once and she basically substantiates that. She said Russians on the whole respect strength and don't think Obama is a strong president. They thought Bush was strong.

I don't agree that one is particularly stronger than the other, though I think you can mistake a less militant or adventuresome or threatening foreign policy for weakness if you've a mind too.

There were Democrats, but with low oil prices, the economy suffered in the transition and Putin got in control and put his fellow paranoid KGB comrades in positions of power.

The best Russian Tsars were dictators: Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Great and Catherine the Great. Russians love their strong, Big Brother leaders.
