RE: Connor Mitch - QB xfer USC
Sure I'm concerned about Mitch's coming back off an injury, and I'm also no Schor-hater (he performed as well as expected if not better given the situation last year). But we also shouldn't watch limited tape of Mitch (say from the UNC opener) and say he's not that good without accounting for what he's going to gain from the drop in speed of the game from SC to JMU. That's not to knock JMU and he certainly didn't have the two years of high-end experience Vad did, but remember when we were questioning Vad vs. Birdsong at the beginning and wondering if Vad was really a good enough QB? Then the minute he stepped on the field for an actual game, he looked like exactly what he was. A P5 starter playing at the FCS level. And I'd think a lot of that has to be because after playing against that level of competition, both in games and at practice, the game probably has to seem slowed down and more manageable for those guys.

I get what you're saying and agree with you. But I'd sure like to forget that 1st game Vad had (against Maryland). I give him a partial pass though; our O-line was overmatched and our WRs couldn't get separation.

Not only UMD, but the first five games of 2014 showed us nothing of what was to become of VL. Granted the whole team sort of came together after that Delaware loss, but I can assure you most of us seriously doubted if Vad's name would ever be mentioned along side of Rascati, Landers, Cawley, etc. until the Towson game.
Heck, with over 4 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter we were up on St. Francis by only two points with Vad finishing the game at 14 of 31 with one interception. This was a St. Francis team which ended up at 5 - 6.
I could give the stats on the other four games to start that season (UMD, Lehigh, Nova, and UD) but trust me, you don't want to see them.

RE: Connor Mitch - QB xfer USC
My wife and I were at the Lehigh game and the team looked really terrible. I thought at that time that 3 to 4 wins was going to be the season. Fortunately Jimmy Moreland pulled a rabbit out of a hat and the team came together a couple games later and did real well.
Would never have thought that based on the first couple of games though. SHows that sometimes it takes a bit of time for a team to jell, especially with a new HC, staff and QB!!!
Go Dukes!!

Doh, you guys are right and I definitely forgot that part (probably blocked it out of my mind). But I'm hoping some of that was the enormous switch in offensive scheme for the whole team and that maybe with our running game and less tweaks for everyone else it won't be so rough this time.
