I think its only a 6-month deal, not a full resolution to the budgetary grappling. Hope its enough to justify letting any cats out of the bag though...

I have a feeling that is far from even enough money to shore up the academic side of the house at nine universities, many of them running on fumes.

That and to get the Politicians thru election season, so they don't have it as a major issue. No tax increase now, but you can certainly bet one is coming after November.

It only returns them to 90% of last year's funding....plus, just for 6 months.

The just approved that they would allocate that amount of money. doesn't mean they will see it in a timely basis. Some vendors have not been paid in over one year.

I doubt it, its only 6 months and the pension problem still looms. Long way to go to get out of this mess

The stopgap, while welcome, is merely a short-term band-aid designed to take us through the election and take the immediate heat off these moron bozo politicians. It will be delayed until immediately after the election until all hell will break lose, and we'll start all over again. Better enjoy these 6 months, Illinoisans!

The AFSCME union still does not have a contract. Hopefully Rauner will play hard ball. Also, CPS are not out of woods. the CTU will probably go on strike in September to get their money.

RE: Stopgap budget
there are politics that must be considered about any projects even privately funded. how bad would it look to announce some athletics project even while the academic side struggles financially?
