Ford Proctor Earns All-Freshman Honors
Following his selection to Collegiate Baseball's first team all-freshman team several weeks back, Baseball America just named him to their first team all-Freshman team this morning...

http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2...e32dlDQ.97

BTW, he's tearing up the prestigious Cape Cod League so far-- hitting .386 after 10 games and 38 ABs.

RE: Ford Proctor Earns All-Freshman Honors
Another nice write up on Ford, this time from D1Baseball's primary Cape Cod scout...

http://www.d1baseball.com/analysis/cape-...cts-21-40/

Quote:37. Ford Proctor, ss, Rice (2018)

Proctor is an elite prospect and a potential top two three selection in the 2018 draft class. He looked that impressive over his time with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, and this was already coming off an outstanding freshman season at Rice. He’s a slick defender at shortstop with athleticism and solid foot speed, but the bat has what truly stood out for The 6-foot, 190 pound Proctor had outstanding, patient at-bats, allowing the ball to track deep and showing power to the opposite field gap. His swing was among the most compact and quickest in the league, and he showed flashes of easy above average raw power in batting practice. And the best may still be yet to come as he continues to add more strength. He has the tools to stick at shortstop for now, and although he’s about an average runner, he does show a good first step. He ended the summer with an impressive .375 on-base percentage, speaking to that advanced discipline and professionalism from the left side.

He was also named to ESPN's projected list to make 2020 Olympic squad. Four years away, but still some good publicity.

Tristan will be included in the next group of prospects (#40 - 59). In corresponding with Frankie, he has Tristan a bit lower only because he doesn't yet have a firm position. He's a solid defender, but not a "plus" one. I'm assuming (though without any inside knowledge) that Tristan will be playing 2B for us next year, since Proctor and Myers are locks at SS and 3B, and from everything I've heard, the power hitting, left-hand hitter JUCO transfer (Chase Sarchet) is earmarked for 1B. Assuming Charlie Warren does return (does anyone know if he's back on campus?), we're going to have the most left-handed laden lineup fielded in the Wayne Graham era, with Myers, Wunderlich/Brewer and DiCaprio our only everyday right-handed hitters.

Edit: The 2016 - '17 roster is now up, and both Warren and Dunlap are listed on the roster. I also notice a second JUCO transfer (C Robbie Lemmons from Howard College, but at 5'7" 165 lbs, I'm not sure he projects as a college catcher)...

Robbie Lammons is listed on the Rice roster as a catcher, but he is (still) shown on the Howard JC Hawks' roster as a utility player. Perfect Game had him as a catcher, but that webpage may be several years old, as it gives his high school graduation year (2015).

The box scores from six May 2016 games that are on this NJCAA web page show that Lammons played as DH three times, 3B twice and catcher once.

On the roster, under Experience, what does "Sq." stand for?

I like the sound of that infield. Should be a good lineup if a new hitter or two emerge. With Chandler and Warren, the outfield is in good shape too. Wunderlich too. Experience everywhere and they can field. More concerned with the level of dominance we can achieve with our pitching staff. Need to be healthy. Need a breakout season from a couple of pitchers. Need to be dominant on the mound to have a good shot at Omaha. The Cuba trip should be a great experience for this squad to come together and be ready for the spring.

With what should be a very good offense, I don't think we'll need dominant pitching to get us deep into the post-season, but we will need consistent contributions from more than 5 - 6 pitchers.
