G5 schools that could compete immediately in a P5 conference
http://campusinsiders.com/news/group-of-...06-17-2016
The usual suspects, although i might swap GSU for UCONN. Not to discredit what GSU has done, i would just personally bet on UCONN in a head to head. Also remember this list does not factor in attendance or other factors, i believe this list is solely based on "on the field" performance.
Also not sure if these schools are ranked in a particular order or just listed.

Well now that's just an elitist thing to say...
Fun fact, did you know NIU is undefeated against Alabama? Even when the game was in your house, Michael "the burner" Turner torched the Crimson Tide in their own home to pull off one of the biggest upsets in college football history =)

It's okay...Most people wouldn't think that GaSouthern would have the head to head on other similarly comparable teams...like UCF, Nevada, USF, and oh yeah...UCONN itself.

Like i said, nothing against GSU. Just happens that UCONN is a little more established at this point in FBS and has more brand recognition, helps to sway a decision. Plus, their defense last year was no joke.

I imagine that in another 40-60 years they will end up on each other's schedule.
I think they have only played once.

One could argue that UConn's entire brand recognition, football included, is a direct result of their prowess as a basketball school. Fair enough...we haven't been FBS all that long. But we have proven that we can compete/win no matter what level we are classified.

A lot of people forget, since UConn hasn't been very good lately, but UConn was very competitive in the Big East football conference. Won the Big East one year, with the likes of West Virginia, Louisville, Rutgers, and Pitt in the conference. Ranked during several seasons and played very well under Randy Edsell.

Your definition of "very competitive" may be different than mine:
UConn's record in Big East play: 27-39
In 9 years, they had 2 winning records, 1 .500 record, and 6 losing records in conference play.

Uconn stinks and barely compete in the conference theyre in.
id pick ga southern over them every time.
also bama prefers to play the worst fcs teams in the country to play so forget about ever getting niu and bama together again. It wont happen in 100 yrs.

Well, since none of them seem desirable enough for P5 membership, the only way they can prove parity is in OOC games and bowls. They have 20 regular season chances this season. Any guesses as to number of wins? Last year they were 10-21 including 2-8 in the bowls.

I'm not sure if you're slamming NIU or saying we're too risky to play because we're a good team...

I wouldn't. You underestimate the culture at Georgia Southern. You either win or your gone. They've had two losing seasons since restarting their program in the early 80's and they had a new coach the year after each.

If we're talking about next year, my money's on UConn. If we're talking the last 5 years, GSU hands down.
