If you haven't seen this...it is a nice recap site for each year's CWS. Clicking on the scores on the right gives you the official game story from the CWS folks.

Thanks for the memories! I know we all would give anything to experience that thrill again.
But, even if we don't, that magical season of 2003 will live with us forever.
Go Owls!

Nice memories, mahalo!
I was actually in Hawaii on vacation with my family (Kauai) for the championship series versus Stanford. My wife and daughter thought my son and I were crazy staying in the condo to watch the final game. There aren't many things I'd give up a day outside in Kauai for, but that was one of them. I'll never forget walking around later that day with our Rice gear on and having people ask if we had won or congratulating us on the fact we had won. There was even one guy with a UT hat that congratulated us.
Thanks Tiki!

RE: 13 Years Ago Today
Teek, ya beat me to it....I have a folder of about 300 shots I took in Omaha in 2003, most of them during the championship series with Stanford. A dozen or two of the pix you posted were included among those I took; as recall I put some up on Ricefootball.net and of course am glad you chose to save them along with pix you took yourself. Looks like a number of Tommy LaVergne's pix as well. Anyway, a swell compendium, but I thought if any of the Parliamentarians enjoyed some of those candids, they might likewise enjoy thumbing through my (mostly raw, unedited) album. Here's the link"
A couple hundred snapshots of Rice at CWS 2003
One of my favorite candids....

Thanks PTH I was hoping others who had taken/collected pix from the 2003 CWS would make them available.

You distilled them down to the best collection, for sure. My extras don't add all that much to the mix, except there were quite a few fellow Parliamentarians clearly visible among the various candid snapshots that were taken, although I can't find the one I took of Frankie B. and his rogue's gallery of pals...and Joyce Hardy hugging everybody she could get her hands on. It was like she'd taken a drink of Love Potion No. 9.....

That's just Joyce. Before every baseball game she had to hug everybody she saw before she reached her seat.

Great resource. IIRC, the 14-2 championship game score is still the CWS record for biggest margin of defeat in the final game. And I think the first Rice-Texas score of 12-2 is still the largest whupping the Horns have ever had at the CWS.

This still burns me. Stanford pitcher named MOP and only 3 Rice players on the all-tourney team.

Curtis Thigpen, Texas, 1b, So.
Enrique Cruz, Rice, 2b, Jr.

Carlos Quentin, Stanford, of, Jr.
Danny Putnam, Stanford, of, So.

Aardsma was the most shocking ommission. I had no problem with Hudgins getting MOP given he was 3-0 in Omaha, with I believe 2 complete games, if I remember correctly.

Somewhat on topic, Jonathan Yardley is doing the play-by-play for the Dynamo v Portland match on ESPN2 tonight.

Agreed. Would have been nice to see Aardsma included. Still, looking at some of the names actually picked, it reminds me just how talent-laden that CWS was. Texas, Cal State Fullerton and Stanford all had great teams - and although not as strong as some of their past/future teams, Miami, South Carolina and LSU were there as well. What a tremendous accomplishment for the Owls to end up on top - versus all that great competition. Makes me want to go back and re-watch my 2003 CWS Highlight DVD!
That was the first CWS my Dad and I attended together. Great memories!

And yet another bad-call finish in a sport that just doesn't seem to care about getting it right ... either with sufficient numbers of refs or instant replay on critical decisions.
