We pick up some Vets and picks in trades if we cant make a strong run next season, deal a player or two, or three and try it again. I think we need to try to keep Marc and Zack together one or two more years unless the injury bug strikes, Conley can go if someone wants him at 20-25 million but he has lots of good years left at 29, just don't know if the math will work. Looks like we could have traded for Derrick Rose if we wanted to pay a PG that kind of money.
I would love to see Pau come in, his salary is reasonable now, but he is getting old. Could still give both Marc and ZBo a breather and might be the difference down the stretch. We might pick up OJ Mayo one more time and try to give it one last run, he and Conley make for a nice back court.
We are going to have to cash in our chips pretty soon and rebuild if we can't hit the jackpot soon with our core.
Pau, when healthy, is still a better player than ZBo. He and Marc would be a tremendous frontline.
No interest in OJ Mayo ... uggh. I'd rather stick with Tony and have Wade Baldwin fill in at 2. I don't think the Hornets are going to resign Courtney Lee, the Grizz could resign him as well if he wants to come back.
I'd like to see them make a run at either Parsons or Ryan Anderson, both provide excellent outside shooting with some size.

I'm amazed that someone would think that.
Pau Gasol is a 4 time All NBA player. Zach made it once (3rd team). I love ZBo, but I honestly don't think it's arguable.

Pau carried Kobe to a couple of rings. Zbo can't play defense either.

RE: NBA Draft Night Thread
Within five feet Zbo is a better scorer.
Outside five feet Pau is a better scorer.
ZBo is a better rebounder.
Pau is a much better passer.
Pau over his career has been a better team player.
ZBo is much tougher and could intimidate opponents.
Neither one of them was a good lead guy. But Zach handled de facto leadership on the Grizz better than Pau did.
Pau made the ASG once as a Grizz. Playing for LA got him on more. Zbo had All-Star stats but didn't make the team because of his reputation.
There careers are really tit-for-tat.
Zach Randolph's tenure with the Grizz has been more significant even if Pau's tenure is important to franchise history.
But ZBo was a much better running buddy for Marc. ZBo's attitude was much better than Pau. Pau and Marc are different like Peyton Manning and Eli Manning are different. So if we had Pau with Marc, I don't think Marc ends up as good.
Per 36 minutes over their careers:
Pau: 18.6 points / 9.7 reb / 3.4 assists / 1.7 blks / 51% FG
Zach: 19.2 points / 10.6 reb / 2.1 assists / 0.3 blks / 47%
Comparing Pau and Zach is like comparing Jerry West and Magic Johnson on the Lakers. Numbers-wise Jerry West might seem to be much bigger for the Lakers, but you look at the way Magic defined the Lakers most important historic period.

I am sure it had nothing to do with Marc Gasol becoming the best center in the league.

Being the best center in today's NBA is like being the best singer in the Pussycat Dolls.

Naw. At this point we make the playoffs with or without Zbo. And Davis and Martin will be coming into their by the time Zbo leaves

We can hope. But in all honesty, I think ZBo could be the Grizzlies' Tim Duncan and play the rest of his career on a below market value deal playing 70 games at 18 minutes a game. But I don't know of his ego would allow that.

Does he have a choice? It's either that or move on to another team. Can't have a 35+ year old with a declining skill set playing a major role

Playing on 35 yo sore knees with a sore back & shoulders at a place he likes and is appreciated & respected while still making good money can salve an ego. I bet 18 minutes looks better each morning in January and February. I see these veterans icing down stuff on the bench and it makes me hurt.

Then there's this as well -
Quote:In 2004, Randolph signed a six-year $84 million-extension with the Portland Trail Blazers, and what did a young, 23-year-old ZBo set up for himself? His contract was designed so that $25 million of the $84 was scheduled to be paid from 2012-2017. That's right, the big guy is currently making over $4 million a year from the Trail Blazers, a team he hasn't played for since 2007.
