Tech adds Iowa State transfer LB Jordan Harris
Started at MLB for Iowa State last season. Joins Texas transfer LB Dalton Santos at Tech. Picked Tech over Oregon State, Memphis, ECU, and USM. We also added a 6'2" CB transfer from Houston Baptist this week.

Nice get, but after visit to USm and Memphis he was not offered a scholarship by either. I have known the kid since high school. Good guy. Great, physical run stopper. A bit of a liability in coverage. Was the starter at ISU last season with 74 tackles. Got beat out this Spring for the MLB job, and transferred. I would have liked to have had him here at Southern Miss, but our staff was saving the scholarship for a Uof L corner transfer.

We will take him. We needed LBers this season.

Didn't know the whole story but I knew there was some speculation about him coming to USM. Hopefully things work out for him and La Tech with the exception of the USM game 03-thumbsup

Wow. So let me get this straight: Harris was good enough to start all 12 games last season for a P5 school in the Big XII, but he just wasn't good enough for USM and Memphis? 03-lmfao

When you got holes to fill a starter from another team is about as good of a get as you hope for....

as for the UofL kid that went to S. Miss, UofL must be loaded this season on defense...Western got one starter and another kid that played major minutes...or would that be plays since this is football

USM would have loved to have had him. Scholarship numbers are very tight, and apparently the coaches felt CB was more of a need than LB. He was asked to walk-on. The coaches wanted him, but just didn't have enough schollies to go around.

Holtz usually under signs in case grad transfers come in

I hope the young man has a great season at Tech. Well, except for one Friday that is. I don't know any of the details, but I have heard that Coach Hop is trying to balance out our schollies. It was all you Tech fans last season warning us about all the JC players. I think Coach Hop agrees. I am sure he would have liked to have added such a talented and experienced lb, but we lost our best cover corner to the draft last year(Mr. Irrelevant) and I suppose he felt the corner from Louisville was the bigger need.

Tech's aversion to JC players has as much to do with APR impact as anything, as we have been burned by JUCO players academically. If they are JUCO, there is risk in ability, academics, and limiting the amount of high school recruits you get. If they are a senior that has graduated or maintained a decent GPA at a 4 year institution and saw the field for a P5 team, then the only downside is roster composition.

Not so much. It's not Iowa State but the level of competition that Iowa State played against. Last year Harris had 70 tackles and 5 TFL. Last year Harris played against OU 11-2 (#4 CFP team), TCU 11-2 (#7), Iowa 12-2 (#9), Baylor 10-3 (#13), Oklahoma State 10-3 (#20)

I think you would agree that schedule is much tougher than USM or Memphis. USM would have probably offered him if one was available because that kind of success against that level of play, is worth a scholarship at Memphis or USM

Very true and much different than a graduate transfer with a degree in hand, which are usually registered in 6 graduate hours.

I would probably agree that a linebacker on a bad team had lots of opportunities to make or miss tackles. What I would be more interested in is how many pass breakups or tackles made after completions he had. Our conference is pass happy, and the skinny is that he is a poor linebacker in pass coverage.

We heard the same comments about Houston Bates, a DE grad transfer from Illinois and Driskel, - can't compete on a bad team, no one else wants them. A productive player from a bad team must be doing something right because it is tougher to excel without talented or dedicated teammates.

Iowa State played 7 ranked teams, 18th toughest schedule- not only Big 12 but Iowa and 10-2 Toledo so "bad" might not be the correct wording. I remember some fans calling 6-6 Washington "bad" before the HOD bowl also

None of these teams has anything to do with Iowa State...or this particular linebacker. Chester, who is frequently on here, knows a little about Iowa State and him. He is a fan if the school. Ask him....Personally, I think the linebacker you signed and the db we signed from Louisville will be depth for sure for both of us, but don't expect any revelations from either one.

They lost 245 tackles from the LB spot to graduation. They should be excited about getting this guy.
