+1. I am surprised at all the IKEA hate.
I know people who swear by the place, but the stuff I've bought from there is a pain to assemble and doesn't age well. And while I've only had experience with the Woodbridge store, the layout is utter hell, especially if you need/want to leave and you're midway through.
Is that the one you can see from 95 heading south? It looks like an Ikea prison. "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave..."

Yup. It looks like what you'd expect if IKEA designed Lake Taylor High School.

I actually like IKEA because I love hands-on stuff, but nothing that I buy from them is intended to be permanent. I've built desks for friends, bookshelves, dressers, etc. I had a beautiful black dresser that I assembled when I moved into my first house in Norfolk and it served me well for 2 years... then it started falling apart. That could have just been the amount of clothes I stuffed in there though, the bottoms of each drawer caved in periodically until none of them were useful anymore (the bottoms were those cheap fke wood panels, not the stronger particle board that made up the rest of the dresser). I gave it to my roommate to destroy and re-purpose after I moved out haha

I'm not a carpenter, but I've built quite a few things for roughly the same price IKEA charges, but everything has lasted way longer.
Heck, you can cheat and use piping as a base for a table or bench or something, screw it into place or weld if your fancy. And just throw some wood on it, held into place with some brackets.
