Exclamation Unofficial Football Pre-Season Thread (Newcomers are on campus)
http://www.emueagles.com/news/2016/6/20/...ampus.aspx

Very nicely explains the purpose and benefits of having newcomers on campus even before the start of fall drills...

Good to be in Michigan during the summer. Phoenix area (the home of Arizona State and Giraldo) hit 118 yesterday and maybe 120 today.

Not really any relation to the OP, but probably the best fit for this. New 3-game Flex Package on sale for $42 ($14 each). May be of use to those who can't make some of the week day games.

That's Dion Dawson with the beard and burgundy t-shirt in the photo. Actually looks pretty good for a 6' - 6'1" 300+ pounder.

Yes!!!

Posters complain about the midweek games (go to the main MAC board for the good ones) so the obvious answer is 'accommodation.'

By accommodation I mean, the option to buy a subset of the season package which means someone can go to the games which fit their schedule and they can watch the others on ESPN3 (or even on CBSSN or ESPNU or whatever).

EMU gets midweek national games and some otherwise season ticket holders can save some money by not paying for games they might not otherwise attend.

Win-win.

I'm copying this post here (from another thread) as this thread seems appropriate (can let the other thread 'die' - didn't need a whole thread for it).

Offer All the season ticket options at the same time rather than all games early and packages later now that's win win

EMU football tickets are so cheap, any discussion of affordability is funny.

http://www.emueagles.com/sports/2016/2/5...th=tickets

Ultimate Fan Plan (includes a chairback seat, free parking, food voucher and VIP discount card)........$99 FOR THE WHOLE SEASON!

Come on people

Agree. Incredible value and bottom line, even if you cannot attend all of the games, you have still contributed $99 to the football program!

There are plenty of things to b**ch about regarding EMU football, price of tickets, parking, etc is not on the list. Those who do, strike me as being unbelievably cheap.

RE: Unofficial Football Pre-Season Thread (Newcomers are on campus)
Yes I agree there are lots of options, I'm just suggesting they change the timing of the options and offer all the different packages at the same time. More choices are always better for the fans. Actually I like the three game home package where the fan gets to choose which of the three home games they attend which would require perhaps a ticket alteration. That way if games get on TV and are moved or bad weather they can pick an alternative game to attend.

Cheap or not and despite price increases attendance has still lagged.

And half the people who posted comments about this issue don't buy season tickets and don't attend games.

Getting to chair back seating:

Having a chair back is a good thing (except for students who prefer to stand), but the chair backs at Rynearson are just below the press box.

That is not my favorite location to watch a game.

Using my 20 - 20 hindsight, it would have been better to have those seats at mid-field but say 15 - 20 rows up from the field.

Two reasons which seem obvious to me (with my 20 - 20 hindsight):

1). I think most spectators wish to be say 15 - 20 rows up from the playing field. Too close to the playing field can impair the view of the field (football is very different than say baseball or basketball). Too high up and the view is diminished without binoculars.

2). The higher up one goes the more stairs need to be climbed. Ideally, a stadium has the concourse level half way up the stadium so folks can go up or down a limited number of stairs.

I would have a row or two of chair backs (with extra spaces between seats like at Camden Yards) right under the press box for ADA. Those fans could utilize the elevator. Buy an ADA seat and get a pass for the elevator.

A few comments looking down this list:

Will O'Connor ever return to form? Fingers crossed.

Beck just didn't have the speed or coverage instincts at safety, more of an 'in the box' safety. Looks like he has the inside track for the 4-2-5 hybrid position.

Roback.....no more excuses (or turnovers)

Brown very versatile, one of the better defensive playmakers last year, especially if he wouldn't have had the club on his hand all year. New defensive staff experimenting with him at safety.

MacLean better suited to the inside. Enough size to hold his own at the 3 technique, with above average short space quickness to cause trouble in the interior of an aggressive 4 man front.

Spearman coming back healthy will be a huge addition. Should pick up where he left off prior to injury, and provide a big boost his Sr. year.

DT Brown, although a Sr., could be searching for reps, if either of the big Juco DT's show up ready to play.

Giraldo should get passed up by multiple guys. A band-aid for last year's injuries. Calderon had that spot before his injury, Moody and Hoying also in the mix.

Coaches really working different DB combinations to find the right mix. A few DB's in the freshmen class may shake things up as well. Wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of different combos all the way till conference play starts, before the staff settles in on the best 5. The only guy that is really 'penciled in' at this point is Pace, the Senior CB.

RE: Unofficial Football Pre-Season Thread (Newcomers are on campus)
While the main focus has been on the defense, I came away from the spring game impressed with the new defensive scheme. We've added two JUCO DL, a JUCO DB and a JUCO LB that with Barnes at punter and some injury returnees and better overall defensive coaching makes me a believer that our defense will be greatly improved.

At the same time I came away from the spring game not impressed with the offense, the guys that impressed me at WR Collins and Snelling aren't here and we have 3 JUCO WRs in place of them, lots of timing and familiarity issues to work out. Despite a senior group of OL the OL was not impressive in the spring game. I'm looking forward to see some of the newcomers challenge for positions on the OL. Likewise the PK in the spring game was a disaster, we have a new JUCO there so hopefully that area becomes more reliable. I see Vann and Turner rotating at RB, Browning and Tuttle are decent at TE-maybe we'll see double TE formations given the WR situation.

Agreed. At this point the offense is overrated and the defense underrated. On paper, the offense has all of the pieces in place, with experience, other than at WR. QB, OL, TE, RB all should be good to go and excelling, except they're not. We'll see how good the OC is at resolving the WR issues, and developing a scheme that best fits the best personnel he can put on the field. Need a more consistent offense, way too many 3 & outs last year.

Get better play from the new group of WR's, and better play from the DB's, and 6 wins is not a fantasy.

Yeah I know.....sun is always shining in July and August! Haha

Typical garbage pre-season report done by a "writer" presumably only looking at a 2015 stat sheet and the roster.

Thanks for the link, but this thing is filled with even more nonsense. The eye rolls started after this doozy:

'The quarterback situation is strong with Brogan Roback back, along with a young option in James Pensyl.'

As you said, another 'writer' just making stuff up from last year's stat sheet.

Did somebody say we have a place-kicking problem? Tim Bond can handle that for us.

Here's video of Bond kicking a 40 yard field goal (Yes, you read that correctly. Our small forward can bomb 40 yard FGs): https://twitter.com/robmurphyemu/status/...9936678912
