That team was a badly coached and played 1st quarter from being a top 10 team at the end of the year. The deserved the Cotten Bowl and implying they didn't is kind of a slap in the face to that team. They beat and beat badly almost every one on the schedule.

They were the most statistically dominant team in MAC play ever.

That is not saying a 10-3 with this schedule would not be great. Also breaking in a new qb and all new wide outs it would be a better coaching job than last year. However do not take away the actual difficulty of going undefeated before the bowl game. Thats a team that pasted some decent teams including running over a quality Toledo team.

Illinois was not the worst big ten team last year and Akron had a qb playing kent was the game with the wr playing qb. The schedule was favorable, for sure but other than USC the schedule is not super bad this year either. MSU should be worse this year than they were last year which was a tad better than Illinois.

Zero credit will ever be given to Fleck and company by ChipDip. The hatred is pretty sad.

MSU was not better than Illinois last year. In fact, they lost to them.

I know they did but as a whole I would have took MSU against Illinois 6 out of 10 gamesish last year. Just from seeing each time a number of times last year.

I think MSU this year will be on par or worse than that.

It's not sad; the way he was treated. It's just really unfortunate.

I don't think MSU will be worse than last year. I think some of their problem last year was the same we had in Fleck's first year: You lose so many to start the season, and then you don't win THAT next game, and it's just a snowball.

Alex Cotter has just put in a 247crystal ball prediction for Ben VanSumeren to Minnesota. Doh! He's a Gopher247 recruiting insider.

RE: Official Recruiting Thread - 2018
Lester is proving that his coaching staff and himself are VERY capable on the recruiting trail... The thing with this group of coaches is that its a COHESIVE group of coaches... not a distinct head coach out spouting phrases of madness while pounding gallons of red bull... Kids LOVED Pj and his energy and enthusiasm... PJ built a culture through recruiting and internal team growth and that is what is helping grow this team today....

Lester and Co... seem to have more culture within themselves that matches the culture of the team... and thats even more momentum to what was put into motion under the previous regime... It's Lester's to grow now... and so far he's doing a bang up job out there on the trail...

Lester has a ton of talent to work with already on the roster. His recruiting on top of that is looking great. Very optimistic moving forward!

Tell me, if we had this schedule last year what do you think our record would have been?

12-1, loss to USC.

Toledo would've been a more nailbiter game on the road, but still a win, imo.

Agreed. Our squad last year would have crushed State. NW beat State by 2 TDs. Illinois beat State and they didn't belong on the same field w/ us.

They also got crushed by Wisconsin 30-6. I agree 12-1 however if we got week 1 USC last year that would have been competitive.

BYU won @ East Lansing 31-14. WMU would have beaten the Spartans by at least 2-3 TD's.
