Podcast: David Teel on the ACC going to 9 games & ACCN update
Nothing earth shattering, but David firmly believes the ACCN will happen and is also confident in the 9-game schedule. He specifically mentions Clemson fans not liking it as well....
You can listen to it HERE

On this episode of LSL, the guys spoke to Sirius XM’s Rachel Baribeau (07:05) and ACC Reporter David Teel from the Newport News (Va.) Daily Press (01:14.45).

With Rachel:

*We get her take on why college football needs to clean up its act as it relates to domestic violence at Baylor and Mississippi State

*What she expects to see from UofL this year

*Her ACC preview

With David:

*Why the ACC could go to a 9-game league schedule

*Swofford managing expectations and the reasons why an ACC Network will happen

*When he expects the ACC to announce its own ESPN network

Ethan
Thanks for posting this.

If you're an ACC fan and you're not tuning in to LSL or listening to their podcasts, you're missing some solid information on the ACC each week.

If everyone has to go up to 9, ND should have to go up to 6.

The only problem with that is that NBC owns ND football TV rights....and we are dealing with ESPN..

RE: Podcast: David Teel on the ACC going to 9 games & ACCN update
I think an ACCN is likely going to enhance the minor sports & basketball more-so than football. Football is played for roughly 13-14 weeks a year for one day a week which is roughly two weeks of actual live content and that content will likely be games between Wake Forest vs Pitt or BC vs Duke. The chances of a FSU vs Clemson game on an ACCN would be slim to none.

Sure you can have coaches shows and other weekly shows with practice film in the background. I think this is a chance to make sports like baseball, LAX and soccer into revenue sports, and to funnel in the doe for sports like hockey to enter the fray. Sure having football helps the B1G Network, but hockey is pretty big in the Rust Belt and is a revenue sport in it's own right. No reason why baseball couldn't be a revenue sport in the south, and likely already is for some schools. Why not make even more $$$ off of it. Then sports like LAX and soccer are growing in the US, especially in the Middle Atlantic area.

Why? Not our decision to make the mistake of going to 9 games.

Other tiny little issue is the why? Why would we do that?

i think ND should be offered full time membership, if they decline, drop the 5 game a year thing. it is in their best interest to be in a conference and win conference titles, if they want to make the playoffs.

Clem, I think the 5 game deal was in exchange for access to non-CFP ACC bowls. Neither side would want to cancel that deal, IMO.

I would like to see the money math if the ACC dropped the B1G from the Orange Bowl and replaced them with ND in exchange for just 4 regular season games. Would the ACC make more money by playing ND five times in the Orange (same money split with ACC getting $41 mill with ND getting $14.7 mill)? I know ND would.
The ACC needs to make money where they can and if the B1G is actively working against us then we need to work actively against them.
If the SEC and ACC developed a basketball challenge, seems like that would be beneficial to both parties.

Best Guess, He has some info, but the bottomline may well be that the league will get clarity from ESPN by the end of the year about whether or not the channel will get the go-ahead. If it is a GO, then next spring we may hear more about 9 game schedules... If not then I hope the ACC goes all in with NBC
