Maybe he can find a way to carve out a role as a backup point guard for a team look for a guy that can score. Or more realistically, he may have to go to the D league and play well.

Couldn't he make a lot more $ in Europe (compared to the D league)?

Probably, but isn't the D League is a shorter route to the NBA.

You don't make crap in the D league. And not too many guys make it from the D League to the League. Sure they get 10 day contracts, but the ones who sign deals are the ones who sign with teams and get assigned to their D league

Ricardo Marsh has made a great career out of overseas basketball, and Frank Hassell, Gerald Lee, and Valdus Vasylius are doing well on this circuit. Tough on families, but what job that pays isn't?

Not to mention Odell ! Trey would be lucky to be playing in Spain, France or some other locale if he shouldn't catch on with an nba team. What a life changing adventure when you are young, plus you would make great money. Nba I'm sure is the goal but Europe wouldn't be bad!

Take the money out of it (granted not that easy to do), but playing overseas would have to be a far more life enhancing experience than playing in Podunk, USA on a D league team.

If it were me, and I thought I was good enough for the NBA, I would spend a season or two in the D-League to give myself a chance. It's a little bit of a gamble, but if it didn't work out one could always go play in Europe or elsewhere afterward.

Far more life enhancing experience would be playing in the NBA and going to the D League is his best opportunity to earn that shot. Glad Kent didn't decide to go to Europe. Trey can always go to Europe if that doesn't play out. Hell, I joined the military and got to experience all that overseas stuff. Cool to visit but I'll pick Murica' every day of the week. USA rules! Go Trey! Go Monarchs!

Yeah visiting Europe is one thing. Committing to spending the prime of your life a continent away from friends and family, and raising a kid in a different culture is a pretty big deal.

If Kent doesn't have that game with like 17 blocks during the Vegas summer league, I'm not sure he would've had much of a choice. He was on the same level with a number of prospects that ended up in Europe. Kent just blew up in a very small window of time and kicked his way through by swatting everything that went up on that defensive backboard.

Trey Freeman will likely get his chance during the summer, but he's going to have to be lights out to have a choice of NBA D-League vs overseas. That D-League is invitational, not choice. If he shoots it like we've seen from time to time, he's got a shot. But he won't get it by taking more shots than almost anyone in the US like we saw this year.

Trey is listed on the roster of MME-Realist Enterprise, along with Aaron Bacote and Frank Hassell, for the 7 Cities Pro Am. Next game is Saturday evening at Lake Taylor. Ricardo Ratliffe, Cat Barber, Duke Crews and Austin Colbert are also on the same squad. Doesn't look like any current Monarchs are playing. Though, a few Lady Monarchs are on rosters for the women's league.

Boy what a sight it would be to see Trey dishing it out to Frank!

I am pretty sure they haven't been allowed to participate since JJ came on board. It has been at least a couple years.

Probably due to the rule of how many teammates can be on the same team. Not really worth it if your team can't play together

Ed Miller covered this. He said it was because of the upcoming Euro trip.

The only mention I saw for not playing in 2015 was in an Ed Miller article about the pro-am that said they were sticking to their own summer regimen.

RE: Trey Freeman Updates
Whatever the reason might be, I have no problem if our coaches would rather have the guys not playing in that league. I'm sure they pick up enough bad habits in their own pickup games.
