While most of us agree that having it fully enclosed is ideal, I wouldn't sweat about conditions that may effect 0-3 practices a year at most.

Sure we would like it enclosed but I still think we have just made improvements that put us right up there with other teams in the conference if not slightly ahead of them.

Keep in mind only 6 games a year are played in a stadium in only 6 days a year.

The football pavilion doesnt have sides so that it wont have to be heated or cooled.

That's a false assumption. I've literally never been irritated about anything you've ever posted on this board.

To clarify, I am beyond excited for us to have a $22.5m football facility approved by the BOT. I will take a pavilion, tent, teepee, or giant sunbrella over nothing. It's a monumental, historic week in the new life of UAB and our football program.
Yet I read this thread and there are real, diehard fans who love UAB, complaining about the very thing that symbolizes what we have desired.

I apologize for offending anyone. Go Blazers!

Look, whether you like some old gump's verbiage or the plans themselves or not, this is still a turning point for UAB football.

I've tried to pinpoint what Gene Bartow would call our finest hour.

June 1, 2015?

Having "Fire Ray Watts" echo in the rafters on national TV?

Or Friday?

Remember, friends. When football starts beating the **** out of people, that will be a victory for all those hard-working coaches and student-athletes.

When the come out of the tunnel against A&M, it will be a victory all ours.

Will the parochial bull**** continue? Sure. Will the shenanigans? Damn right.

Is the war over? Of course not. Was this a battle victory I'm going to relish? Damn right.

I wonder the same thing.

football is often played when its super windy, rain blowing sideways, 30 degrees outside, etc.

Lol, the Dallas Cowboys actually had something like this collapse from a wind storm and a coach broke his neck so excuse me for wondering.

It was actually a cheaply-built($4 million) practice bubble...

UAB fans are so used to 30 years of nothing new for the football program, we are glad to get something built that is on our FBHC's list. Yes, an enclosed practice facility would be better than the pavilion, but we got what we could afford and get approved. If we get some 50+ mph straight line winds, we may see that pavilion move like a kite and land some distance away in pieces. Let's just hope what we are getting is what we need, at least as a beginning.

And don't forget to keep the insurance paid.

I found this metal gazebo on Amazon, wind-rated to 65mph... maybe this would be a better option. [Image: 61zQlzhzX%2BL._SL1500_.jpg]

This is clearly a victory and we should rejoice. We should still remain vigilant and all is not as rosy as admin wants us all to believe. Celebrate the victory and continue to raise money and fight behind the scenes for what is right.

Sometimes I wonder if you try to come up with the most ridiculous scenario possible. Do you really think UAB and the city of Birmingham are going to allow something to be built there that can simply float away in a gust of wind?

If it's flimsy enough for 50mph wind to blow it away, putting sides on it would just make it worse. Do you think that they would spend $20+million on something and not be reasonably sure that it could withstand a significant windstorm? These architects didn't just fall out of bed last night and decide they would start being architects and structural engineers.
