Proposed tuition increases for the fall.

Out of state students would see estimated increase of $500 per semester at UA, $444 at UAB, assuming 15hr course load.

...On to UAB agenda. First is the remote parking lot which will have 1,100 spots near I-65.
...Approves construction contract with low bidder Russo Corp. of Birmingham for lot at 400 10th St. S.
...Football operations building revision up now.
...Revision to plan includes a covered regulation-sized practice field, alternative options include an uncovered regulation-sized practice field, new equipment storage buildings, and an 80-yard practice field.
...The budget, with all the alternatives included, would increase from $15.3M to $22.5M.
...The change was the result of better than anticipated fundraising and a $4.2-million sponsorship from Legacy Community Federal Credit Union.
..."The fundraising efforts for this facility have been pretty extraordinary," Allen Bolton said. As of this morning it was $18.27M, Bolton said.
...More money has been raised for UAB Athletics in the past 12 months than in the past 12 years, Bolton said.
..."You got yourself a football facility, how about that," trustee Wilson said to applause from gallery.

$4.2M from Legacy is huge!

Also got approval to hire Davis Architects for design of softball field grandstands.

...@avines11 base proposal is the building, the covered field. The alternates are in there as options if the funding to do them comes through.

Also...

...Authorized negotiating architectural agreement with Davis Architects of Birmingham for the $1M grandstand, press box at softball facility.

Awesome pics and great news. But the "Looks like you have a football facility. How about that?" comment rubs me wrong. Even when they do something right by UAB, they sound paternalistic. Notice that the BOT says "You" and not "We". With the BOT, I would suggest holding off the full celebration until our football team is actually practicing there.

Agree. He shouldn't have gotten a cheer at that. Unfortunately it seems that everyone is just going to accept a half-measure and we're going to be mired in mediocrity and still unable to make decisions for ourselves.

So we should do what exactly? Turn it down? Protest the vote? Or maybe we should build off the momentum so in a few years we are back at the table asking for more. I didnt like the comment either, but I'm not sure it was meant as it is characterized to be at this point. I thought he was trying to get some excitement from the UAB crowd for a change.

I think a pretty solid thing to do would simply have been to not clap and cheer like trained monkeys. No, there shouldn't have been a protest today, or even a boo. But, I'm not going to beg for the permission to spend my own money and act like I'm so grateful and indebted to them that they are being so generous with my money. They act like they're being so magnanimous to allow us to do as we see fit with our own f'n money, I'd be shocked if Jim Wilson had given ten cents to UAB Athletics.

Everyone acts like we've won and there's no need to hold anyone accountable or that the same jerkoffs that started this entire thing in the first place aren't still in power.

Perhaps Wilson should be asked to clarify who "you" refers to since it makes it sound like a foreign entity was getting the benefit, not an integral part of the university system. Maybe some of the BOT folks are not accustomed to think of anything as "we" unless colored crimson.
