RE: 2018 Basketball Recruiting
One gets the impression the last “non-post” a schollie will go fast. The recruits have to know the first to commit will get - assuming they are interested in W&M at all.

Reading that article it's no wonder that William & Mary fits him so well. Humble, even keeled, and academics 1st. I also liked the part where he discusses working on being more aggressive and putting on 10-15lbs for his senior year.
He is a very good player now. I am predicting another of Shaver's underrecruited Jr's that blows up his senior year.

I cannot imagine the amount of time that Tony and his coaches have put into recruiting this year's class of recruits. What a great group of coaches we have. This is shaping up to be one heck of a class. I am stoked.

2018 CAA recruiting spots left to date (per verbalcommits):
0 - Northeastern
1 - Elon
2 - Towson, UNCW
3 - CoC, UD
4 - Hofstra, JMU, W&M
5 - Drexel

In reality, we probably have 2 and maybe some transfers to balance the classes somewhat since we only have 1 junior this year.

Wisconsin had a 4* SG decommit this week. Not sure how the extra open scholie may effect Hemphill's situation with them.

RE: 2018 Basketball Recruiting
Yes, it certainly has become very interesting reading these pages recently!

Owens is a great addition and it appears, after all the agony that Tony and his staff have gone through in this recruiting year, things are paying off big time.

If a couple more of the names being mentioned on these pages sign on we may be looking at a
Golden Class!

Connor Crabtree started following LJ Owens. Guess who has now started following Thornton Scott, Baker Dunleavy, Quinnipiac's HC. Just can't get away from them. Wouldn't be surprised if a 4th commit comes before Scott's visit is over.

Crabtree also retweeted Owens’ Commitment tweet with some muscle emoticons so who knows.

Who would you guys prefer out of Crabtree, Peterson, Shaw, or Scott?

I kinda like Crabtree’s athleticism and low around game. He attacks the rim hard and is a great playmaker and is Long on D and disruptive inthe passing lanes. In his highlights he sorta looks like a combo of Tarpey and Prewitt .

What a difference a week makes and it seems like we are now a desired destination with this nucleus!

As you said TribeHeart, major kudos to Blair for getting this started and making the first commitment and being such a strong Tribe advocate. Quinn seems to have some real leadership ability.

Verbal Commits had Crabtree committing to UNC-Asheville. Did he change his mind?

Tough question. I think I would be pleased with any of them. Each is talented in there own way. All of my opinions are based on watching some highlight videos which tell little of the entire story. I think I would rank them by what they bring that complement what we have.

Crabtree - more mature from prep school. Adds another long athletic slasher.
Peterson - Adds height to the wing at 6'8. He's skilled, but very little video is out there that is less than 2 years old. Rated highly in a good basketball state.
Scott - Another postgraduate, that is in range when he steps into the gym. Versatile. I think he could play the 1-3 spots.
Shaw - Very smooth player with a variety of ways to score. He is from CA and has many west coast suitors, so I'm not sure if he plans to stay east. Pretty quiet since the initial offer.

Peterson is quoted as wanting to now decide in the spring. If he does that, I think the spot gets filled & he misses out with the Tribe. I think Scott has shown a lot of interest, and, if he likes what he sees on his visit will get pressured to commit this weekend. Not sure where we are with Crabtree. He seems to like & have a good relationship with the coaches, but I get the feeling that he waits until spring. As for Shaw - no clue.

I get the feeling with no real movement on big men that the coaches may wait and address them in the spring.

As usual, I could be completely wrong about everything.

Think if Scott or Crabtree commit, then still see us wanting Peterson, who would be a logical redshirt candidate to get physically ready for the next level. The other two will have already done their postgrad year.

Interesting angle in that Crabtree and Hemphill are, both, from the Research Triangle area, and are bound to know each other, beyond just any AAU exposure.

Very good point. It allows the team to upgrade talent, allows him to fill out, & it will help balance out the classes.

Interesting that UR has started targeting other big men, which like our recruiting pattern, may indicate they don't think Kupsas has them in his picture anymore. They only have one slot for this class, which as a recruit would be a lonely scenario.

it is no secret that I like Crabtree. His length and slashing drives, as well as his ability to get into the passing lanes, reminds me of a Terry and Omar combination. I love this kid, but would be happy with any of the above mentioned. Waiting for one or two more BOOMs and perhaps a double BOOM for a big man,
