Thanks for the actual info folks. I'm excited to see Hewitt and also the new open court offense they plan on using this year.

Glad to see that ODU has returned to actively recruiting overseas too. We've had some nice additions from doing that in the past. Hope it works out for Jones as well.

If he is very interested in academics in addition to basketball as the article suggests, Princeton, UCSB and Cal Poly will be much higher on his list.

Cal Fan, I have heard ODU referred to as the "Harvard of Hampton Blvd". I am very hopeful that we sign this cat.

I don't care who they sign as long as he has some size. The fact the article states there aren't many big men in the States this year concerns me.

Maybe he thinks he won't get much playing time. Either way, it's good we beat them out, now if we can win out against VCU.

Stopped recruiting him from what I was told. They got a commit from a SG. He had 5 with ODU in. Now 4....

VCU fans need lives. It's embarrassing (not to mention an NCAA violation) to tweet at a 17-year-old kid.

This is a pretty gray area, as if anything else involving NCAA regulations could be considered cut-and-dried. I know that last year, the NCAA loosened its rules about social media in recruiting by allowing coaches to like or retweet comments from athletes because, in their words, "it is difficult to monitor all coaches and their social media activities." And if it's difficult to monitor coaches' activities, then trying to keep fans, boosters and randos in check is like trying to herd 10 million cats. I think at this point, the only way you get in trouble with fans recruiting through social media is if the NCAA can prove that it's a planned effort headed up by the athletic department.
In regards to Wade (or anyone else), might I suggest the adage "if you can't beat them, tweet with them."

Doesn't matter if it's planned or unplanned. NCAA dictates that the institution is responsible for boosters' actions. Another institution could take screenshots and report the violation.

Has that ever happened? Because it would be pretty easy to false flag as a rival school's fans to tweet at a recruit and get them in trouble for something they had no hand in.
If the NCAA were to take a hard line on it, they would either have to triple their staffing or do almost nothing *but* monitor social media feeds for illegal messages.

I agree that it's hard to monitor. Regardless, it is really creepy and sad to tweet at 17-year-olds.
