I feel very good about our QB at Southern Miss. Nick Mullens will be in his 4th year as a starter, and could possibly break just about every Southern Miss passing record with another good season. He is steady, and is a great leader. His teammates respect him. His arm strength has gotten better each season, although he will make a bad decision every once in awhile. If Nick goes down, then nobody really knows what to expect.

Marshall and MTSU have young QBs that should only get better after playing as Frosh last season. I expect the Western KY QB to put up good numbers even though I have no clue who that will be.

La Tech will be breaking in a new QB. I think FAU will also.

UTEP and ODU are coming off seasons in which they had injury issues at this position.

David Washington who was hurt last season is making a nice recovery and should be the starter unless Bentley proves otherwise.

Middle Tennessee is feeling really good about this. And this year there's Tony Franklin calling the shots as opposed to Buster freakin Faulkner. I think we'll be fine :)

Rice starting QB will most likely be Tyler Stehling. He's a 5th year senior who has played mediocre in his limited appearances so far. He has a cannon for an arm and is pretty accurate, but isn't very mobile in the pocket.

I think he will be serviceable. IMO, part of his problem is/was he usually got into the game when we were down by a demoralizing amount last year. The guys around him weren't fresh nor motivated. If you look at his stats vs. Texas last year, and ND & ODU his junior year, he was pretty decent.

The backup is likely to be RS Freshman JT Granato. He set all kinds of passing records in the SPC (Private school league). He is a pretty polished QB for his age, but Bailiff usually goes with the older guy. His dad is also a sports talk radio host in Houston.

North Texas has 5th year senior and Alabama transfer, Alec Morris, taking over the QB spot. He has a strong, accurate arm, and a high football IQ. If we can block for him, he should be picking apart some C-USA defenses this season.

I don't feel great about the QB position for the Monarchs because there is so much unknown. Will our starter recover from injury (ACL) adequately? Has Bentley (our supposed freshman phenom last year who didnt live up to the hype) progressed and become more elusive and accurate? We have some pretty well regarded redshirts and freshmen, but you hate to use them if you can avoid it. So I think its all up in the air for us right now.

Sounds similar to our Alabama transfer who came in for the 09 season... The results weren't what we hoped for.

UTEP lost Leftwich, starter last year but knocked out of several games. He was injured in spring and lost for the season. Metz and Johnson, both sophomores, started a few games and instrumental in a couple of wins. Metz was also instrumental in losing the UTSA game with 6 int's. In comes Fresno St graduate transfer Greenlee with 2 yrs eligibility left. Started some games for Fresno St but lost the starting job. He was highly rated out of high school. It's a question mark for us.

We're good with Litton the next three years. We also have Xavier Gaines, a highly rated dual threat QB waiting in the wings, and just got a commit from a 3 star QB in GA that looks great. The future will be fine for the Herd at QB.

RE: How do you feel about the QB position on your team in 2016?
Charlotte sought QB transfers after the abysmal showing by signal callers for the Niners last season. The result was Cody Keith (ECU Grad Transfer) and Kevin Olsen (Former 4-Star recruit at Miami(FL) and brother of Greg Olsen of the Panthers). Olsen won the starting job before the spring game, Keith immediately transferred out after losing the battle, and Matt Johnson (Starting QB for the first 2 seasons and against GaSt last year) moved to running back.

Niner fans are hopeful to get just solid QB play to go along with our senior laden team.

Do you mean the hype that we put on him? No one could have lived up to that. He played pretty much like a redshirt freshman is supposed to play, sometimes good sometimes bad. Hopefully Ron Whitcomb will work with him and he will be much better this year. I like David Washington and all, but to me the progression of Bentley is extremely important for the short term future of the program.

I agree. I did feel better with DW in last year but SB showed improvement when he came back later in the season. The more important measure will be improvement in the OL. I feel pretty comfortable with both options at this point.

We have one of the best QB's in the nation; however, we do not have it made.

I'm concerned about our depth at the position. We don't have a backup who has ever taken a snap in a college game.

If Stockstill goes down our season probably sinks with him.

Well at this point no one knows who will be QB this season for us and I bet even the coaches do not know... My guess is MIke White will get the first shot, if he falters then will go to Tyler Ferguson, if he falters then we might trot out our true freshman from South Carolina Steven Duncan out....Either way our system though is good enough to produce no matter who the QB is...We have the 3rd most experienced OL returning in the nation, 2 legit RBS and 3 if Allen can get healthy along with 3 really good WR playmakers.....Only question is at Tight End and QB...

MTSU- you guys have a true stud at QB.

I think you guys can win some big games over the next 3 years with him.

We got graduate transfer, Jerrod Johnson out of Sam Houston State, a perennial FCS power. He was named POW of his conference last season. He should win the QB position. After that it's a former walk on who was granted a scholarship and 2 redshirt freshmen. Johnson should be a huge upgrade and if the o-line can keep him up right I think the offense will be much improved. The o-line got much needed help when o-tackle Jevonte Domond transferred from LSU.

As an ODU fan, I don't know what to expect... David Washington was solid but our line needs to block to keep him healthy. ACL tears are nothing to mess with. If Washington is our starter and can stay healthy I think we have a good thing going. But as some others have said, I really want to see if Shuler Bentley can step up and be our guy. I wasn't able to watch the spring game or any spring practices but to be honest I would be fine with either David or Shuler if they help us win

Technically - yes. But not quite.

Our new QB is most likely baby Driscoll, he was a redshirt freshman last year who got quite a bit of playing time behind Quez, the departing senior.

And most of us, Owl fans and some experts believed that last season Driscoll was already a better QB than Quez. So, he is not truly a new QB. A new STARTER - yes. A total noob - NO.
