RE: Stadiums
NIU the best of the MAC because of atmosphere??? And Heinz field of Pitt being in the top 30?? You need a bunch of people to see every stadium and rank them together. One person will always be biased in the same way any of us would. Not buying it.

OU is last in the MAC... Dix in the top half. No credibility.

Whoever compiled this list has little love for MAC (East) Stadiums:

#62 Huskie Stadium - Northern Illinois
#66 Waldo Stadium - Western Michigan
#71 Glass Bowl - Toledo
#79 Kelly Shorts Stadium - Central Michigan
#81 Dix Stadium - Kent State
#92 UB Stadium - Buffalo
#101 Rynearson Stadium - Eastern Michigan
#114 Scheumann Stadium - Ball State
#117 InfoCision Stadium - Akron
#119 Yager Stadium - Miami
#122 Doyt L. Perry Stadium - Bowling Green
#123 Peden Stadium - Ohio

I obviously have a huge Ohio bias, but I don't think Peden deserves to be #123 out of 128. I loved watching games at Peden. I suppose the mass exodus that often occurs after the 110 plays might have something to do with "stadium experience".

Sure they're not confusing Infocision for the Rubber Bowl?

RE: Stadiums
I think calling it "stadiums" misses the mark. UB Stadium has to be one of the worst few in the FBS.

Your description says

"Our ranking of the stadium experiences in college football is based on the rating of our official correspondents. We've included the food & beverage inside the stadium, the overall atmosphere, the neighborhood where the stadium resides, the fans, access to and inside the stadium , overall return on investment, and an "extras" category for any unique features not covered adequately in our other categories."

And by this measure and not stadium quality, UB stands up well against the MAC. The pricing, parking, free concerts, and pre-game experience has been really good the last three years.

RE: Stadiums
As far as importance of those criteria I'd rank em: Return on Investment, Atmosphere, fans, access, neighborhood, food, extras.

I havent been to OU or Miami yet, but I bet we could do much better with ranking the MAC teams.

RE: Stadiums
I'd like to see a breakdown of what went into these ratings. I'm going to guess some correspondents were more lenient or factor certain things more than others. Akron gets docked for "atmosphere" (aka poor attendance) meanwhile its facility is top notch, meanwhile, OU led the MAC in attendance creating what I assume to be one of the better atmospheres and they finished dead last.

Based on the write-up on OU I'm going to assume they went to a midweek MACtion game on a chilly night. Considering the number of stadiums these people hit up per season I wouldn't be surprised if mostly all these MAC rankings are based off of November midweek MACtion games.

RE: Stadiums
They cited CMU's "good marching band" as one of the reasons for their ranking. There are several things wrong with that statement.

And by that metric, why is Ohio dead last?

Complete joke. No way is Ohio below BG. Not to mention one reason they are docking Ohio is that they say it's cold there. Not too many stadiums colder than BG's when the winds get blowing.

They seem like the 3 biggest? Not really familiar with Kent, Miami, Akron, or UB's. Ay piggly wiggly makes me not like BG's. Ours is small.

I'd listen to an argument that Peden Stadium is the worst "stadium" in the MAC. It IS in dire need of renovation.

However, as others have mentioned, the criteria they listed discussed atmosphere, fans, etc... In that respect, Ohio is well ahead of most, if not all, of the MAC.

Athens, Ohio is colder than CMU, NIU, Buffalo? When that wind comes whipping through NIU's stadium, it's like a blizzard.

RE: Stadiums
Ranking everything sounds good theory but doesn't make sense because there's no consistency. The judges (many of which you can tell are big homers for the school they're reviewing) are almost never the same, and each of them obviously has different standards for grading. Also, when you review stadiums you only get a glimpse at them for that one game they host, and those are different week to week from school to school. If you reviewed Miami in the late 90s or early 2000s against UC or Marshall we'd look great, but instead the guy who did ours on that site chose the infamous monsoon game of 2011 on a weeknight, hardly a valid comparison when most other teams had normal Saturdays.

In reality, most of the MAC is more or less the same as far as stadiums go. A lot of everything depends on atmosphere correlated with team success, I bet it was a blast to go to Rynearson in the 80s but a morgue when you went to 90s Huskie. If you truly want to compare the different venues, I think you'd have to visit on an average gameday but then also see it at its best. That's easier said than done.
