College World Series
It's coming Saturday. There will be no Owls to watch this year but plenty of underdogs to choose from. I watch it every year, even when Rice isn't there, and I'm sure many of you do too. What think you, fellow Parliamentarians, of the upcoming eight team free for all? Do you have any favorites, Unfavorites, or intriguing possibilities to discuss for this week's CWS? My current fave is UCSB because Santa Barbara. What a neat little town.

My son is a UM alum, so I will be pulling for them as a fall back.

Being a lifelong Rice supporter, I am conditioned to root for the underdog. UCSB fits that role just fine.

But overall, my interest in college baseball plummets to zero when the Owls are out.

My daughter is a TT grad. I get a (small) paycheck from TTHSC. And I live in the midst of the TT sphere of influence So, if the Owls aren't in it, I guess I'm pulling for the Raiders

Me three.

And I do tend to pay attention to the CWS tv broadcasts, if for no other reason that it extends the college sports season another week or ten days longer, before plunging into the Dead Zone during the summer doldrums before football.

And with a feeling of sadness and emptiness, always.

I watched the early innings of that game. Interesting strike zone for the home plate blue. Reminded me of the strike zone Joe Savery faced.

The teams I would root for are generally not the same as the ones I would bet on.

Again in the AZ vs Miami nightcap, balls 8 inches plus off the plate are being called strikes. College umpiring really sucks and doesn't appear to get any better in Omaha.

5-1 AZ in the T5.

Texas Tech doubles in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth but big boy Luken Baker clocks a monster three-run homer in top of ninth to put TCU ahead, 5-3. Sucks for Tech, as they were so close to their first CWS win in school history (assuming they don't come back).

RE: College World Series
I'll keep harping on the calling of balls and strikes. In the B9, a ball a foot outside is called a strike and then two pitches well within the strike zone box are called balls. I realize it didn't figure in the outcome, but either the ESPN strike zone box is way off or the home plate umps are clueless. I guessing the later.

And Luken Baker is a beast.
