Almost.
Lots of spinning still doesn't make it so.

RE: College World Series
That was a pretty exciting contest. At the end the tieing run was on third and the winning run was on second with two outs for Arizona. The Coastal Carolina pitcher had just given up a double, and on the 2-2 pitch he had thrown a ball two feet above the strike zone. On 3-2 the game could have gone either way but the Wildcat batter swung and missed for strike 3 and the final out. It was a dramatic ending.

Today's USA Today mentioned Rice (positively) in its article about Coastal Carolina. Called us a national power (in context of, you don't have to be P5 to be a national power in baseball or basketball. On the flip side, obviously the thought is that you DO have to be P5 to be nationally relevant in football).
Also noted that their win should not be considered a "Cinderella" story and that of the two finalists, they were ranked higher coming into the NCAA tournament . . . .

Here's a fun fact. Apologies if they mentioned this on the broadcast, but I didn't get to see much, so if they did, I missed it. CCU and UA are both 1320 miles from Omaha, +/- a mile or two. I wonder if that's ever happened.

Good article from ESPN showing that Clemson and USCe fans were pulling hard for CCU. The article also did a good job of highlighting what a national championship-winning squad can do for a school. Should be on the desk of our president and board of trustees

Good grief-- you act as if the Administration doesn't already know for well-- from first hand experience-- what a national championship winning squad can do for the University.

I think the "Administration" needs to be reminded.

To blame the Committee because of post-season performance is absurd, as they make their selections based on regular season and conference tournament performance. By most accounts, Florida was far and away the most talented team this year, and was almost a consensus preseason #1 pick. So, they were the first to get eliminated in Omaha. Big whoopie. It happens. Louisville was arguably the 2nd most talented team this year, and never made it to Omaha. That doesn't mean the Committee was wrong in selecting them as national seeds. Are you saying you would not have selected them as national seeds based on their regular season and conference tournament performance? They earned their national seeds, and very, very few (if anyone) would have disagreed 3 weeks ago.
The issue isn't at the top of the list; Florida and Louisvill ust underperformed, it happens every year. The problem was to extrapolate that to the borderline teams at the bottom of the list - Vandy, NC State, etc. There was one team in the top 16 of the RPI that didn't get a host slot because of the ACC/SEC bias. They got a national championship instead.

Here's a very interesting read about scholarship limit issue, from the Omaha paper and using Coastal Carolina as a key part of the story. And it verbalizes the possibility of the baseball powers also potentially needing to break off to possibly allow more scholarships and control the post-season income more.

How much of the current administration was here in 2003 ?
Several of the key members are from Stanford, where they win multiple national championships every year. I think the administration, at least the athletic department administration, understands the benefits of winning. Whether or not they can sustain a winning culture at Rice remains to be seen.
