Football Scoop piece on OL doing Muay Thai workouts
I ran across this brief article and video about ODU's OL doing something different this off season to improve foot and hand speed.

I used to do aerobics at Wareings Gym. Back then Sweetpea Whittaker used to train there for his fights. I remember plenty of days when Sweetpea and other undercard boxers would do aerobics with the ladies. It's one helluva good workout, great for foot work and the scenery can't be beat! Don't let anyone tell you aerobics is just for girls. It'll kick your butt.

I agree. One year while I was at ODU I used to do yoga 1~2 times a week. I was already in pretty good shape and athletic, but yoga taught me more than any other workout had. I learned how to control my breathing and how to listen to my body. As corny as the sounds it helped me out tremendously, whether it be in flexibility or knowing what part of my body was weaker or in pain and how to adjust to make sure I wasn't doing anymore damage. It was also good for my brain, as it focused on circular breathing so you would get the maximum amount of oxygen as you could. I haven't done it much since I left (and since the instructor I used to go to left as well) but I do miss it

Muy Thai is badazz and is a lot more than aerobics. Especially sparring--good shin guards and helmets are essential.

Looks good. Let's just hope they don't start kicking shins and elbowing people.

Lets hope that the Muay Thai training will allow them to better protect the quarterback.

I might recommend working with wrestling to learn some double legs to improve tackling.

One of my high school lineman wrestled halfway into high school career (team was needing a heavyweight) and he became our most solid blocker we had. He won the coach's award and was 1st team all-conference his senior year

I can see where Muay Thai would help with handwork, footwork, and overall quickness (three things we desperately needed to improve on). Having dabbled in wrestling very briefly (I made it two weeks into training and then couldn't take the punishment anymore) I can attest to the benefits as far as managing your center of gravity. I imagine that is very important on the offensive line. Wrestling gets my vote.

We had a NT that used to wrestle. Kid was maybe 180-190 but we had two guys pushing 300+ on either side of him. That kid was so damn fast. His senior year he took the handoff from the QB and ran it back for a TD twice. I think he ended up in the Arena League before getting hurt. Man that takes me back a long time.
