RE: UNCW Baseball - 2017 Thread
Stack delivered and I'm really happy for him and the team. It was good to see a veteran bail out the team today and I hope that they took note of what he did there. It looked pretty shaky for a while with our prolonged hitting slump. Please take this for just an observation okay...it looks like guys are in general....pulling off the ball and not staying inside the ball as a general rule. And, once you have 2 strikes you have to shorten up and get the ball in play. Hawks haven't strung good AB's together very well at all this year. The amount of K's is alarming and these guys are FAR too talented to have that happen. It worked out today and today was a start. They have to build further from this tomorrow and score runs the old fashioned way a bit more. It can't be an all or nothing approach because we have seen how that works out.

The pitching was better today. Alex had a good outing today. He was sharp and commanded both sides of the plate and kept hitters off balance. The bullpen did it's job for the most part.

Hawks have to play 1 game at a time and focus on every play to get back to where this team expects to be. Throw strikes early and work quickly and let the D work. The offense has to build on today and produce good AB's back to back 1-9. That's Seahawk ball and they haven't been playing it.

Baseball Preview: #20 Coastal Carolina

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The Seahawks host the defending national champion Coastal Carolina for the second time this season on Tuesday when the two longtime rivals take the field for a 4 p.m. start.

The Chanticleers (11-7) edged the Seahawks (5-9) earlier this season with a 4-1 at Brooks Field. The two were to conclude their three-game series on Wednesday, but that game has already been postponed until May 9 in Conway, S.C.

UNCW captured its second series of the season last weekend, topping Longwood, 11-1, in the series finale on Saturday. The Seahawks broke open a 2-1 game in the seventh inning with five runs and added four more in the eight to conclude the scoring.

UNCW came alive at the plate with five home runs against Longwood and extended their home run streak to five games. The Seahawks hit .290 during the series while committing just one error. The pitching staff posted a 2.67 ERA while striking out 27 in 27 innings of work.

CCU, meanwhile, earned a series win over visiting Illinois on Saturday with a 6-0 blanking of the Illini. The Chants dropped the series opener, but rallied for a 3-2 win in game two.

Seahawk junior righthander Austin Warren (1-1) will make his third start of the season and the second against Coastal. Righthander Zack Hopeck (1-1) will make his fourth start of the young season.

Tuesday's game continues what is now a 17-game homestand for UNCW with Wednesday's postponement. The Seahawks host VCU for three-games, beginning on Friday with a 4 p.m. start.

Game 1 of the VCU series is already in the bottom of the 3rd, no score.

Royalty has cruised through his first 3 innings, retiring the first 8 Rams in order, striking out 2, and only throwing 27 pitches to do so.

It was cool to see Scalf stick with Cota today! It was like...well, nodody was going to get a hit against that nasty FB, so just throw strikes. Once he gets his confidence and can locate a little bit better, nobody is going to do anything against him. He's talented.

Seahawks up 4-0 in the 4th after Cota hit a laser HR in the 3rd. They also put up a run in the 2nd and have 7 hits.

Starter Logan Beehler just got hit in the knee by a line drive hit but appears to be OK. However, VCU has runners on 2nd & 3rd with no one out.
