Dear UC Community,

It is a tremendous honor and privilege to serve the University of Cincinnati as Interim President. I want to thank the Board of Trustees for placing their trust and confidence in me and the UC faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends who have offered their congratulations and support for me and for this great institution.

The University of Cincinnati’s greatness has been built by many who preceded us, it will continue to soar with the talent and enthusiasm of the Bearcat community. Be assured that we are moving forward with the same exciting momentum that has become UC’s trademark.

I pledge to continue our pursuit of excellence in all that we do. From student success, leading-edge research and innovation with impact, to community and global engagement, equity, inclusion and intercollegiate athletics, we will continue to set the bar high and achieve even more.

In August, UC begins a new academic year with an expected fourth consecutive year of record-setting enrollment. Many of you have heard me say that our students will lead us. They inspire me every day along with our world-class faculty and staff, our talented senior leaders and our academic deans who are leading college after college to unprecedented national rankings. I know Interim Provost Peter Landgren will be a great partner in our continued upward trajectory.

As a top 30 public research university fueled by breakthrough discoveries in medicine, engineering, health and wellness, UC is saving lives, preventing disease and increasing understanding in the sciences while continuing to claim the worldwide spotlight for design, music and studies of justice across the spectrum. We will remain focused on making cities places for social mobility and making urban corridors healthier, safer, smarter and better designed for more sustainable futures. These areas of expertise have been our bedrock as an institution, and they will be our platform for a nation in need of solutions. As an urban-serving university, we have an abiding responsibility and commitment to provide access to an education that can lead to a better tomorrow for our students, our city and our nation.

As we look ahead, our university is getting ready to celebrate two centuries of commitments to a better tomorrow. The upcoming bicentennial in 2019 will be an opportunity to shine light on our history and many of our UC stories, including the most recent successes of our strategic vision, Creating Our Third Century, with its investments in faculty and staff, student success, and new research initiatives that speak to some of the grand challenges of the world including cures for cancer and the future of safe and available water, along with advances in eLearning. All of these speak to some of the successes UC will be celebrating on its third century birthday.

I see now that the new Interim Prez has a Twitter handle. Have to see if she responds to suggestions sent to it like Ono did.
