RE: SR Dogpiles
It was much easier for me to look down my nose at others' dogpiles when our team had had cause for one in recent memory.

Hadn't realized Oklahoma State hasn't been back to Omaha since 1999. That's quite the dry spell for a perennial national power, and more than twice as long as our current dry spell.

That would mean that their last game in Omaha was Rice's first win in Omaha -- the day that Kenny Baugh let them load the bases with no outs in each of the first two innings, but didn't allow them to score. Good times.

One of my favorite Rice baseball moments, exceeded only by the Catch and the Championship dogpile.

IIRC, Kenny didn't "let" them load the bases. I believe there were some errors involved too.

In my mind, one of the most important wins in Rice baseball history - we desperately needed to win a game in Omaha and Kenny came through for us. He is still my favorite Rice pitcher of all time. Besides winning an incredible amount of big games, he stayed for his Senior year and pitched that Final Regional game against Baylor on 2 days of rest. I think he also threw another 130 to 140 pitches against Nebraska the following week in the Super-Regional at Lincoln. What a warrior!

Some mitigating factors in favor of the TCU dogpile:

1) You weren't the national seed
2) Playing on the road
3) In the midst of an epic closing kick to the season; you weren't supposed to get to Omaha
4) Have history with this opponent (who had, incidently, talked for a year about getting revenge)
5) Opponent led by a former teammate, now conference player of the year
6) It is the Aggies, of course you want to annoy them.

I had no problem with the dogpile.

I would rather be in the position to dogpile than just criticize those who do.

I think I would probably do it just to upset all the Aggies in CS. They thought this was their year because the "SEC is the best".

Love that the CC dogpile ended up right in front of LSU's SS.

Acting like winning was a formality would have annoyed them even more.

"Yeah, it was A&M. We knew they'd fold."

That's close to what our players did after the '08 SR. But everything just has to be X-Treme these days, in your face. Subtlety won't do for people who have to have every single thing amped up and/or spelled out for them on a freakin' marquee.

I was less than impressed with how our players behaved in the UH regional last year. I don't mind excitement; I do mind puerile gesturing and ****-talking. Unwarranted dogpiles are more akin to the latter.
