If UT wants him, you can't do anything about it. You'll find someone else good.

Isn't Tulane as good of a program as Texas? Sorry for my ignorance, I don't follow baseball close. I thought Tulane was an elite top 10,20 program.

Texas has the all time best winning percentage in college baseball and is 2nd in total number of wins. The longhorns haven't been good recently but they have a really deep history.

Big time. It seems like the same story across most college sports. Teams don't know when to let go of their "legendary" coaches.
Hell, we just went through it with Frank Beamer. He should have been gone several years ago.
FSU was several years late getting rid of Bobby Bowden.
It seems to happen time and time again.

This is why I'm a big fan of going after coaches who have ties to the university...
UCONN has former players like Penders (Baseball) and Ollie (MBB) as well as hometown guys like Ray Reid (Men's Soccer).
To them, it's a dream job and the only way you're losing them is a pro job offer. While it's not always feasible, I think it's great for the university and health of the program / Athletic Department to look internally.

They do have more history than us, however, recently we have been better.

Coach Pierce just signed an extension in December of this past year. I really think he is going to stay. Tulane does pay their Baseball Coach, always have. Rick Jones, our previous coach, was among the top for a very long time before he retired. Rick Jones had job offers for what seemed like 15 years straight, notably Georgia. I am hopeful that Pierce will stay, we just hired one of his friends, Coach Willie Fritz this year. However, if he does go, I wish him all the best. A class act. We have a good name and will pay for Baseball, we will get a great replacement if it comes down to that. I just hope it does not.....We have a history of not losing Baseball Coaches. The 2 coaches before him stayed for over 40 years.

That can work the other way, though. If they don't work out, then it's harder and certainly more heart-wrenching to move them out.
Anyway, yea, if Texas wants him, we'll lose him. We'll also find a good replacement. Getting a good baseball coach has never been a problem at Tulane. Not losing any sleep over this.
Now, if we win some football games and that coach leaves....as much as we struggle to find a coach who can turn a losing program into a winner, we have been positively inept at hiring the winning coach's replacement. We suddenly decide that the top credential for a football coach is "he will stay."

If he leaves Tulane after only two years in my opinion he is a scum bag. I am sure our Tulane AD has clauses in his contract to pay Tulane 5 million dollars in damages if he leaves. Tulane baseball is one of the top programs in the nation.

...Scum bag though, really?
I wouldn't blame him for leaving after two years for a place like Texas. But you're right that - in baseball - we're one of the top programs in the country. Historically we've paid our head coaches a high salary, and while the program has lost its luster in the past few years, it's still seen as a relative destination in college baseball. I don't see him leaving this year.
