Quote:The Birmingham business community and generous philanthropic individuals continue impressing us daily with their belief in what this means for UAB and our great city

Maybe it shouldn't, but this sentence bothers me.

First, at what point does the support become expected instead of surprising?

Second, "their belief" just rubs me the wrong way. Isn't is a shared vision for what their support means to UAB and Birmingham?

I'd like to think this was simply just a poorly constructed part of the letter, but I feel it's more likely he said exactly what he meant here. That being that at some point they expect the community support to dry up and the fact that it hasn't is surprising to them. Additionally, that there is no shared vision for the success of a full athletic program at UAB and he's only doing what he has to do to make it appear that the administration wants it, too.

I'm also open to the possibility that I'm being too sensitive and critical when reading this.

Wow, thats quite a dissection of a couple of words and phrases. Cant say that I could read all that into what he said or didnt say.

He never said surprising. I'm just happy that we're not getting the PR buzzwords that RayRay is so fond of.

Like I said, it could just be me. I don't fully trust him (I know, I know) so I probably inferred a tone that may not have necessarily been there.

"Belief" is a powerful word around here.

I'd rather have him standoffish than claiming credit he has not earned. "Their belief" was proper wording.
