ODU's Populous report on new stadium a open presentation
http://pilotonline.com/sports/college/ol...38ffe.html

Instead of presenting the Populous report behind closed doors to the BOV on Thursday it will be open to all. I just got word that seating is very very limited so I'll just hang back and watch a stream or twittersphere.

Renderings were to be presented by Populous as well.

We'll see what they report with the rest of the world. 04-cheers

I would imagine this is good news for ODU fans. Why would you have it in public if you were about to make everyone mad?

I hope so. You guys can build a great football program imo. I hope this thing holds at least 30k though.

Our beat writer just mentioned that it will be proposed in the old location. Hence I see it between 22k and 25k. No way they are going to build 30k in the old stadium location until some miracle happens and they tear down those historic buildings. 03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead

RE: ODU's Populous report on new stadium a open presentation
Populous will way over price the estimate. They're like the car body shop you take the car too cause you know they'll give you the highest estimate. Did a projection of expanding our current track/soccer stadium for football with a 10,000 seat addition (16,000 seats total) and press box. Projected cost was almost as much as we built our brand new stadium for.

I don't doubt that. Will make the offer from Ballard a month or so ago pretty attractive.

That's what made me think of it. If any school in the NCAA is willing to give it all up for a dodgy mass transit experiment, it's ODU.

Surely we wouldn't fall for that twice. But we probably will fall for a stadium study that undersells demand again.

They'll be resistant at first until the salesman says "Nahhhh ... it's more of a JMU idea."

The pic from the Simpsons is from an episode where the guy pictured comes into town and sells the idea of a monorail to Springfield. He builds it on the cheap and leaves town with a suitcase of money while the monorail becomes a death trap.

The government did pay for most of it though.

If you do that, you just might as well have stayed in the CAA.

If by "give it all up" you mean "barely use any of your own funding" then yeah. I think it's been a net positive for the University but public opinion is definitely in the toilet.

If someone ever gets that damn concrete umbrella to work, they should name a building after them
