Future CUSA Baseball Tourneys?
Tennessean reported today: SEC Baseball Tourney rejected offer to relocate to Music City and First Tennessee Field, Home of the AAA team, The Nashville Sounds. They are staying in Hoover. So, why are we not scrambling to bring our Baseball Tournament to Nashville ASAP???? Awesome Facilities, Massive Hotel Availability, Top 30 TV Market, Great Location in the "IT" City. And, MT, WKU, and UAB are all within very close proximity to draw Fans!

I think Biloxi is a good spot for it. USM supports baseball very well and it is a good late spring destination since it is on the coast.

Few people are going to travel for a baseball tournament anyway, so might as well stick it near USM or Rice so at least a few games will be well attended.

I agree. This is the first real "layup" for our new commissioner. And it's being handed to her on a silver platter. Hopefully she's smart enough to do the deal.

Nashville's perfect. It's 25 miles from MTSU and 65 miles from WKU. It's right in the middle of our CUSA footprint. There's also no MLB team in Nashville, so there's very limited "competition" for the baseball fan like there would be in an MLB city. And it's a hell of a lot better city --with much more to do and a much larger media market-- than Biloxi. (My lord!!)

Have you ever been to Biloxi? It's a great place for beaches, casino's and hurricanes. Outside of that, I can't fathom why anyone in their right mind would want to play a conference baseball tournament in Biloxi. It's a very small town with limited resources, and it's not the home city to any of our CUSA schools (it's 75 miles from USM). IMO, Biloxi would be a really bad choice.

Seconded. I will never attend any sort of championship in that area, just not very interested -- if it were in Nashville I would probably go. First Tennessee Park is super duper nice. And plus, it's Nashville. So even if we were totally awful (possible) I'd want to have the experience!

I agree here. I'm A baseball fan, and I'd love for it to be in Nashville, but it needs to stay near to where it is. WKU has very little fan support, and I assume Middle is the same way. Now, basketball on the other hand....

RE: Future CUSA Baseball Tourneys?
We are not the SEC, guys. The list was just posted last week of attendance in this conference. Fans don't even go to home games in this league. Do you actually think they are traveling?

The SEC Baseball Tournament isn't a draw because of the city they play it in. They could have that tournament in the middle of nowhere and people would still travel to it. It is a draw because SEC fans love baseball and will go anywhere for the event.

I don't even think Nashville's team would be willing to give up their stadium for the C-USA Tournament. Who is going to come to the games? MTSU fans? WKU fans? Give me a break. The stadium would still be empty for their games. Hell, neither even made the tournament this year.

Is Biloxi a great spot? Hell no. But until some of the other programs establish a fanbase, get used to having the tournament near USM or Rice. There's casinos, a beach, and there will actually be live humans inside of the stadium for a few games. There's a reason the tournament has always alternated locations between somewhere near USM, Rice/Houston, ECU, and Tulane.

I find it hilarious that a fanbase that doesn't support baseball wants to take the tournament away from an area that does support it. Keep it in Houston or Hattiesburg area. Biloxi is fine (people can claim beach trip for family). But let's not pretend that MTSU or WKU made the tournament this year. Putting it in Nashville would be a supremely dumb move.

Right? You don't see us bitching about how the C-USA Basketball Tournament needs to be on the Coast?

Hell, have it in Nashville and 3/4 of the fans there will still be USM and Rice fans. It will just be an average of 150 a game.

Putting the baseball tournament in Nashville would be about as dumb as moving the basketball tournament to the FAU/FIU vicinity...it might be enjoyable for the 250 or so family members that attend but will kill the 3000 or so regular fan attendance.

Biloxi has some great food, and a lot of reason to just relax and take it all in, whether at the Golden Nugget pool or on the deck at McElroy's with a dozen oysters and a cold beer. I'm in for Biloxi, and lukewarm on Nashville.

05-nono Didn't the three teams mentioned as being within driving distance suck so bad that they missed out on the conference tournament this year? What is this guy smoking?

I attended EVERY game of the tourney this year. Outside of USM and Rice, there were no more than 250 fans TOTAL from other teams. 150 of those were La Tech and 50 from Marshall.

Too bad WKU, MTSU, and UAB were not there. They would have really packed 'em in...01-wingedeagle

Hey, I know! Let's move the tournament closer to the teams that don't make the tournament!03-idea

Should rotate between Reckling and PTP. Biloxi is OK, but I don't think the Coast will support it that well. USM outdraws the Shuckers.

Biloxi proper is pretty small (about the size of Hattiesburg), but the MS Gulf Coast as a whole is about 350k people.

Allright, wise acres, I'll concede MT and Western both sucked this year. And UAB has it's own share of woe. But, bringing the tourney to Nashville also brings it closer to Charlotte, ODU, and Marshall, by about a zillion miles. As far as who goes to the tourney every year, every dog has his day. And Biloxi should not have exclusive rights to baseball anymore than B'Ham should always get the Basketball tourney. It is just bad business!

Let me try to put this into basketball terms for you.

What you are saying is the equivalent of a Rice fan suggesting that the basketball tournament be moved to Houston because it is their city and it is still a tolerable distance for UTSA, North Texas, USM, and LA Tech fans.
