Positive Article on Dedric Lawson
http://www.deepishthoughts.com/ranking-p...nba-draft/

Ranked as the 10th best player to pull name from NBA Draft

"Lawson had an excellent freshman season for the Tigers, declared for the draft and subsequently graded out as one of the least athletic prospects in this year’s class at the draft combine. He fills up a box-score and even chips in defensively (1.2 steals and 1.7 blocks a game. In fact, he was .3 steals and .3 blocks away from being the first player on this list to have 6 listed stats). Definitely more smooth, than bouncy or fast, Lawson needs to spend his time improving his athleticism. If he can manage to get himself to be NCAA-average athletically, we could be talking about a top 20 pick."

That's great that he's so highly considered among the returning players.

He will more than likely never be that. But there's nothing wrong with being a great college player either. That's what's wrong these days.

I think the point was, if he was here 4 years and became the number one pick…how good we would be. We know it won't happen.

Yep, nobody good stays anymore. I wonder how many of 'em regret it later.

A ton of good college players stay...

Some great ones stay.

The good ones with the natural tools (speed, height, athleticism) tend to leave early. There are a bunch of very good players who have stayed who lack athleticism like Dedric.

I'm not saying everybody who comes back is slaw. It just isn't common for players who are considered good enough to make an NBA team (think of the Grizzlies team last season -- how talented or athletic were some of those guys?) to return to play college ball.

Look at Keith Lee. How many years would he play now? Just in his Final Four group, he, Chris Mullen, and Patrick Ewing ALL played four years. It's just not that way anymore -- hasn't been for a while.

RE: Positive Article on Dedric Lawson
speaking of lawson, how's KJ doing? during the 1st part of the year i was more impressed w/ him than dedric. if he can get some PT, and not try and overdo it resulting in injury, there may be a good chance we'll be rated.

what say ya'll?

Dedric is not a freak athlete but certainly more athletic than described in this thread. I suspect not properly prepared for draft drills along with fact that he should be getting ready to EBPNTER college.

When was the last time we had a 6'8" four who could dribble the floor, make a move with multiple defenders on him and lay it in. Been since Shawne Williams and he couldn't do it as well as Dedric.

Hard experience has taught me to question the extent of kjs injury. Tendinitis, concussion, et al.

Patrick Ewing wouldn't have attended a class past March.
