NC State leads Navy 8-0 in the 5th at the time of this post. Game was delayed for the only spot of bad weather in the entire Carolinas earlier. Winner plays Coastal Carolina at 7:00PM Saturday, loser plays an elimination game vs St Mary's at noon.

UVA beats William & Mary 17-4. Plays ECU at 6:00PM Saturday in the Winner's bracket

RE: 2016 Regional thread
(1) Louisville beat Ohio St 15-3
(1) Miami beat LBSU 4-3 in 11 innings
(1) Florida St beat USM 7-2
(3) Boston College beat Utah 4-3
-These four teams are 2-0 & will be watching early Sunday elimination games in their regionals, then only need to beat the survivor 1 out of 2 to advance.

(1) Virginia was walked off at home 8-6 by ECU
(1) Clemson was drilled 12-2 by Oklahoma St
(1) NC State had their game suspended, but they're down 3-0 vs. Coastal Carolina in the 9th
(3) Wake Forest is down 22-2 in the 9th inning vs. Texas A&M
(2) Georgia Tech beat Bethune-Cookman 12-3 in an elimination game
-Barring a big NC St comeback, these five teams are 1-1 and will have to win 3 straight games to win their regionals.

(3) Duke lost 4-2 to South Carolina
-Duke's first NCAA appearance in half a century ends at 0-2.

Despite dominance from UofL and FSU, along with a surprising run by BC, it's disappointing to see only half of the six ACC hosts start out 2-0. The odds of winning 3 straight aren't strong but I won't be shocked if Clemson and/or UVA pull it out. I doubt the Pack can do it.

Only two (1) seeds were eliminated after going 0-2, and it could benefit ACC clubs if they advance. Vandy and Ole Miss went winless at home. The Vandy regional was paired with Louisville for the Supers while the Ole Miss regional was paired with Miami. The Cards and Canes both need another win this weekend, but if they finish it off both will be hosting a 2/3/4 seed next weekend in the Supers.

We might beat Western Carolina in a little while simply because they have almost no pitching, but unless we have discovered a miracle cure to our issues (which other than earning walks and home runs is pretty much everything) we aren't beating Okie State twice.

The goal going into this season was reaching a regional and we not only did that we exceeded it. There's a reason we were picked 5th in the Atlantic and 9th overall....Jack left a bare cupboard talent-wise. Our two saving graces this year have been A. Seth Beer isn't human and enrolled early so we didn't lose him to the draft and B. Monte Lee earned every penny of his salary. There's no doubt in my mind had we retained Jack we wouldn't have even made the ACC tournament, much less a regional.

RE: 2016 Regional thread
(1) Louisville beat Wright St 3-1. The Cards advance to the Supers after going 3-0 & outscoring their opponents a combined 24-5.
(1) Miami beat LBSU 9-8 to advance to the Supers after finishing 3-0.
(1) Florida St beat South Alabama 18-6. The 'Noles advance to the Supers after going 3-0 & outscoring their opponents a combined 43-14.
(3) Boston College beat Tulane 6-3. The Eagles impressively beat host Ole Miss and Tulane twice to advance to the Supers as a 3 seed.

(1) NC State lost 4-0 to Coastal Carolina in a resumed game, then they beat Navy 17-1 in an elimination game. To advance they'll have to beat Coastal Carolina twice on Monday.

(1) Virginia lost 5-4 to (4) William and Mary in an elimination game. Pretty disappointing to go 1-2 & not even make the regional final as hosts.
(1) Clemson beat WCU 15-3 to make the Regional final. They then lost 9-2 in the Regional final, finishing 2-2.
(3) Wake Forest lost 8-3 to Minnesota to be eliminated with a 1-2 record.
(2) Georgia Tech beat UConn 7-5 to make the regional final. They then lost 10-1 to top seed Florida. The Jackets made the Regional final but were eliminated with a 2-2 record.
(3) Duke ended with an 0-2 record.

In summary for the ACC:
-4 teams advance to Super Regionals
-1 team still playing
-5 teams eliminated in Regionals

I think that you have to be disappointed in Virginia, going 1-2 as the defending national champions. On the bright side, 4 ACC teams advance to the supers.

Considering how many ACC teams were highly ranked in the RPI, I'm not sure 4 teams advancing to what amounts to the Sweet Sixteen can be called "the bright side".

Yes it was unusual for the Cavaliers who had advanced to a super regional 9 out of the last 11 years. Lack of depth in bullpen was exposed. [Two highly recruited pitchers were injured all year]. What is remarkable is there was somewhat similar lack of depth there last year but UVa never fell into the losers bracket throughout the post-season and avoided that problem.

So now I'm rooting for the Cards to bring home the championship for the ACC two years in a row.

The good news for UVa is that we are not likely to lose almost anyone to pros or graduation this year and with new pitchers that sat out this year and some other top recruits, the Cavaliers will actually be back next year with top depth and talent that it has not had for a couple years now.

Congrats to my Boston College Eagles. A team that plays in the Northeast in a grossly substandard facility (though a nice new one is coming soon!) makes it to the Super Regionals "Final 16". Pretty damn impressive!

NC State is still alive after beating Coastal Carolina 8-1 this afternoon. Have to finish the job tonight, but will be without Coach Elliot Avent, who was ejected for vigorously arguing balls and strikes and must serve a mandatory suspension tonight.

Let's hope that they fair better than they did in Louisville without Coach Avent. They lost all 3 games by a combined total of 12-3. That's when he was bitten by a snake in his own yard. Good luck Pack! See you in Omaha.

That has to be difficult for everybody. The game was suspended with one out in the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded for the Chanticleers. State is leading 5-3.

Between delays and suspensions (in the second game of the day for both clubs) that has to play havoc with pitching rotations/strategy.

Not sure how a Tuesday finish plays out for the super regional schedule for the winner. Most of the regionals were settled by Sunday.

Will the Pack be allowed to bring in a rested pitcher to get the last2 outs?

They can pitch whomever they want. They're two outs from a Super but a single ties the game and a double gives Coastal the lead. At least State bats last if Coastal ties or takes the lead.

State will also be on a Sat-Mon Super schedule, rather than playing again on Friday.

In that case I throw the best pitchers I had at Coastal, even if they have to change pitchers twice to get the last 2 outs!
