This conference will never be worth big money. Staying together or otherwise, there is no good news in today's developments.

Never will make big money---but it can make more money.

Come'on Jerry. Stick around and build something. Be a recruiter, not a joiner. You made the Great Midwest, now lets make the AAC.

This isn't good news. It's wonderful news.

While we might not bring a strong football Pedigree I definitely think we'd bring huge fan support (name another school that expands their football stadium to 61,500 after losing seasons) and I think we'd help strengthen the basketball side of the AAC. I also think we made a great hire for football and he has pulled in our highest recruiting class in school history so I hope things are looking up for football.

While I want Iowa State to stay being in the power conferences unless another power conference merges with us or the big ten takes pity on us we probably don't make the list.

In that case I'd rather join the AAC than the MWC. I see the AAC having more upside potential.

Look up their average attendance, and come back to me when you do.

Let's see those attendance numbers when they are playing ecu, usf, ucf, and Tulane rather than ut, ou, ksu, and ku.
I don't see how that matters. We fill up the stadium for anyone from FCS, MWC, MAC, and Big 12. For Iowa State it isn't about the game it's more about game day atmosphere, spending the weekend tailgating and meeting up with old college friends.

Iowa doesn't have any big pro teams so the college games are everyone's weekend activity. If we ever joined the AAC I'd recommend everyone to come to Ames because the whole game day event is hard to match. We have the best pork in the nation and we will never turn away anyone from our grills and our coolers.

I promise you you'll see a packed stadium for conference games.

But its those 4 or even 5 (every other year) Big 12 Conf HOME GAMES that helps sell the huge majority of tickets, ala SEASON TICKETS...which automatically creates strong attendance for non-conf games...and most teams draw well for their first home game of the season (almost always a non-conf game) as its the first football game in 9 months.

Let Iowa State fans see what its like to try and sell season tix with home schedule like:

Div I-AA
Sunbelt/MWC
TULANE
SMU
ECU
UCF
TEMPLE

Odds are the above would sell a lot less tix than Iowa State's home schedule this :

BAYLOR
KANSAS STATE
OKLAHOMA
TEXAS TECH
WEST VIRGINIA

Just an FYI, the Big 12 just name dropped the term "Big 14".

Boren was quoted; "For now, everyone in the Pure Prairie League is happy. They're playing an extra game. They're making more money. And they may not be done yet.

Big 14, anyone? That sounds so bad-ass.

"Kind of got busy with it, didn't we?" a gleaming Bowlsby said."

I don't see that a problem. We have very odd fans, we average over 50k fans even though we lose 9 games a season. Now if you tell them we could be averaging 6 wins in the AAC I think we would be averaging 61k. Our fans care more about wins than who we are playing.

Nah. With the payout they received today they are financially fit enough. If anything, I think FSU and Clemson's ears might have just perked up. With the $30+ million payout, plus 3rd tier money, the Big12 MIGHT just get some P5 attention, especially if the ACC network doesn't happen. Just saying...07-coffee3

Exactly. I think that shifts the discussion back to the ACC. FSU is perpetually itchy and the 30 million will only make them more shifty. Yesterday's news just means the expasion/realignment wars within the P5 will wage on. Adding AAC schools will be a last resort.

And so the Big 12 finish their meeting waving their junk at ESPN and all the "little" schools that showed interest in joining. Nice bunch.

Texas and Bowlsby close the Big 12 meetings.

That's because its the only thing you know....as the only reason Iowa State is in the Big 12 was its Born on Date....as a few folks decided to start up your Univ before the Civil War even started and your football program was started up in the 1800's..well before radio let alone TV, Media Markets, etc...were even just a dream.

Iowa State's sole presence in P5 has nothing to do about market value or even "deserving" of such an honor...as in over 120 plus years of Iowa State Football History...ISU has never EVER even won a sole conf title...and their last "co-championship" occurred over 100 years ago in 1912.

ISU Football was given the Football Silver Spoon (i.e. 90% or more of all conf TV revenue is generated from Football TV Contracts), and its been 40 YEARS since Iowa State last finished a football season ranked in the Top 20..and without that "Born on Gift", ISU Football may not even exist today.

The benefits of being in sports conferences for 100 plus years (started with Kansas, Mizzou and Nebraska), than almost 90 years ago being invited to join the Big 8...which was obviously folded into the Big 12...not one Iowa State Fan alive today knows what its like without the benefit of being in a conf with some national football powers...and how that's a huge advantage in selling season tix, bringing in hundreds of millions of $$$ (even when your football teams adds almost nothing).

Sure...go ahead and try being in the Sunbelt, CUSA, MAC, etc...for 10 years or so...and get back to us on how ISU has "no problem" selling football season tix...let alone good luck recruiting on that level.

But then again...blind folk like you "dont see a problem" because you don't know any other way...while some of us have lived the life of a football program evolving during our life time from:

Not existing at all...to
Div III start-up....to
Div II.....to
Div I-AA....to
Div I-A Independent.....to
MAC Football Membership Only....to
CUSA.....to
AAC....to BCS Bowl Invites....BCS Bowl Win...multiple Top 20 season ending rankings, etc...

Congrats that someone's Great, Great, Great, Great, Grandfather founded your school and that someone's Great, Great, Great Grandfather decided to start up a football program...which is the only reason you are in a P5 Conf today.

Not sure why people assume expansion is dead. The Big 12 voted to start a CCG in 2017. They could have done it this year, but they didn't. Playing a CCG with only 10 teams in a round robin schedule makes no sense at all, nor do 5-team divisions.

I do think killing the network makes 14 much less likely, but 12 still makes sense. It increases the odds of the Big 12 making the CFP by 13%, from 62% to 75%.

And it brings an extra $500M to the Big 12, to be distributed as the Big 12 sees fit. Even if they gave 2 new teams half shares for the remainder of the contract, that's about $250M for the other 10 teams to split over 8 years, an average of $3M+ a year.

Here is what a few writers tweeted after the presser yesterday:

Josh McCuistion @JLMcCuistion
Have to think title game vote was made w/ eye to expansion. Think one leads to the other. Still though w/o job being done, it’s masochistic.
2:51 PM - 3 Jun 2016

Joe Schad @schadjoe
Any division with less than 6 teams weakens the perceived value of divisional championship.

Expansion for Big 12 is not dead. Maybe not even wounded. David Boren: "I wouldn't say it's cooled. I'd say it's ongoing."

The Big 12 will not expand unless it can get "brand" schools like Clemson and FSU. UT and their its friends will block ANY G5 school.

This means stability for the AAC and retains the potential for it to build a better conference. The AAC is providing more value than the ESPN money indicates. If ESPN simply offers the same or fewer dollars, another company will offer more. The AAC will not get P5 money but it can get a few more dollars to allow continued growth. Fans just need to support.

We have no reason to take shots at ISU. It's a great school. As far as ISU attendance, IMO it would be very good in any conference. The culture is there.

We're in the AAC... That's the bottom line. Our situation in the AAC is no different in that if we lost ECU and UCF or Tulsa and Tulane.

It's just a sheer force of physics. The AAC is on the wrong side of the financial line.
