Good news - the American will stay intact
1. The Big 12 distributed $30M per school this year. Before Tier 3 deals like the Longhorn Network. They aren't hurting.

2. The Big 12 will take advantage of the new rule change and hold a title game at 10 teams in 2017. It will generate an extra $2-3M per year per school.

3. The Big 12 will not seek to build a conference network. Boren says, "The marketplace decided that for us. That ship has sailed."

So while the Big 12 will still study expansion and make an ultimate decision at the end of the summer whether to expand in the near future or not, all signs point to no expansion.

Aresco is breathing a huge sigh of relief today.

Meanwhile, they're going to need a couple swimming pools installed in places like Houston, Hartford, and Cincinnati to catch all the tears.

Don't sigh yet....they haven't announced that they aren't adding 2 more schools and Cincy fans seem to think they are in...
Cheers!

Well of course Houston has no chance, so no expansion for the big 12 is great news for Houston because that means the conference they reside in doesn't lose a school or two to them. I'm not so sure though..
Cheers!

I kind of hope things settle for a while, and we keep going like we are. Need to get TV deal reworked.

RE: Good news - the American will stay intact
They haven’t ruled out expansion, although no network makes it a less urgent of a need for content and market footprint.

They are holding the championship game with 10 already so they don’t need to add to achieve that goal.

The TV deal supposedly has a provision in it to add 2 more programs without diluting the revenue so it’s definitely still possible, although the championship game revenue will be diluted by 2 more schools.

I guess it will all come down to a vote again, are there any G5 programs out there that the University of Texas feels strongly enough about to give the thumbs up?

It will be interesting to see if FedEx goes ahead and announces its sponsorship of the Big 12 championship game now that it’s official.

There still seems to be some thoughts about a guaranteed rematch wouldn't be very good for a CCG.

http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-...-game-2017

But I guess that decision will be made by the end of summer regarding expansion.
From the article not very many coaches like the full round robin and then a CCG.
Also in the article the research stated that a 12 team/ 8 conf game is the best chance for a CFP spot.

As Ive said before, never underestimate the ability of Texas to be contrary. Its not letting go of the LHN. Expansion doesn't make much sense long term without that network in play.

Not for the realists who knew the status quo would remain such. I'm just hoping Aresco can negotiate a deal that retains the current league value at the very least, and I'm worried that may not happen.

i look at this from the glass half full perspective. we now get to see what we really are worth. we get to renew our contract in the setting of stability and hopefully continued success, including an iron grip on the access bowl. come 8 years, it is very possible we do in fact sign a contract with a new years bowl.

So you think thats what you heard today?

Expansion for Big 12 is not dead. Maybe not even wounded. David Boren: "I wouldn't say it's cooled. I'd say it's ongoing."

Stinks thar the big 12 keeps hinting of expansion with no real desire to expand. That overhang kills our negotiations with our next contract.

Exactly. That is the fact. There is simply no way for the American to add value significantly when all of its members have their bags packed and there is nothing the conference can realistically do to prevent that. It is what it is. Most of us are probably stuck here and it's a G5 league. Period. Maybe we make double or even triple or quadruple what the other G5 leagues make, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. They need to give our schools our individual tier 3 rights back and let us all make the most of them.

I've said for weeks the big 12 isn't expanding. You won't see any pool boys outside my home.

I think Kahn said that too... just before Kirk marooned him on the desert planet! 03-lmfao

God that's a great tweet... Everyone should just dial back running their mouths to the B12 and build up the American. Sounds like even they are sick of it.

I hope this is it... we have a GREAT conference and I'm looking forward to seeing it mature over the next few years. We will get paid better, get better bowls. Just be patient.
